from Jayski.com,this was in with an article about Fox renewing a new NASCAR tv package.
UPDATE: The curveball in a new FOX deal is the impact the network's change of SPEED into Fox Sports One, a new all sports channel that will carry Major League Baseball, college football and basketball and other sports in addition to NASCAR programming. Hoping to keep up with the likes of the ABC/ESPN, NBC/NBC Sports Network as well as CBS/CBS Sports Network pairings, FOX plans to flip the current motorsports and automotive channel into its own general sports cable network. As of now ancillary NASCAR programming such as practice, qualifying and support events like the Camping World Truck Series would be mixed into the revamped channel's content line-up. There is word FOX will also stream NASCAR programming beginning next season, ala the "Watch ESPN" initiative that will allow mobile device access for thousands of viewers. Assuming FOX comes to terms, the remainder of the new NASCAR television package is a bit fuzzier. While it appears ABC/ESPN and TNT will return to the negotiating table, the NBC's interest is a wild card. Desperate for content to help build its fledging sports net, the Peacock folks are eyeballing a return to the business of stock car racing. The Nationwide Series, currently an ABC/ESPN property, could be in play for NBC as well as the Truck Series should FOX decide to back off the amount of NASCAR programming for its cable sports network or the "World Wide Leader" scale back its stock car investment. CBS or perhaps niche outlets like "The History Channel" might also dip their toes into the negotiations.(CBS Sports)(10-3-2012)
I know the channel overall sucks E36 M3, but really? I knew the end was coming when you end up airing infomericals at 5 and 11am for a hour when there are so many racing venues and events not covered by anyone. I mean I LOVE the Mazda Motorsports hour on Velocity Saturdays at noon, even though, I don't really care for the Star Mazda series. The whole scenario reminds me of the bean counters making cars instead of engineers, MBA bean counters drove everything offshore to save a penny per million units, and now when suits don't know their core audience and feel the need to change it.
Just as long as I get www.Speed2.com by then.
Another example of how Cable TV is dying. Relevant: post I made here before I got laid off.

I knew this was going to happen as soon as FOX bought Speedvision. As FGC posted above, when you start seeing that E36 M3 on a channel that has place on a channel like that.
Speedvision was great. We need a channel like that. Something I can leave on all day on the TV in the garage.
wait.. History is looking to get into the NASCAR business?
w.. t.. f...
that will seriously cut into the "Ancient Aliens" broadcast time..
Just what is needed...another sports channel to go with all those reality channels.
Is it any wonder why I don't watch TV, at least rarely watch.
One of the reasons we cut the cable cord 2.5 years ago.
...what's the purpose of the "history" channel again?
I can't imagine how anyone can stay awake through an entire NASCAR race today, much less all those pre race and after race commentary shows. I guess it's all the Mountain Dew?
I have kept cable primarily because of SPEED. It will be interesting to see where the new "super sports car" series is going to be broadcast. If they drop F1, I'm out.
sad, now NASCAR will be the only thing they have time to broadcast at all
goodbye, Stacey David, goodbye Two Guys Garage, goodbye all the decent programming that somehow snuck by between NASCAR races and E36 M3ty "reality" shows about rednecks with trucks
soy triste
Maybe Velocity will pick some of it up? Anyways doesn't Fox already have some sort of their own sports network ala FSN (Fox Sports Network) and they break it up into regions? The same with NBC and what used to be the Sunshine Network here in Florida.

Now where the hell am I gonna watch reruns of Monster Jam? TNN went away and is now Spike.
As long as I can still watch F1 somewhere on American television, I could care less.

Now we know why the SPEED2 network was launched.
It's likely FOX has long planned converting their Nascar channel to something other than it is right now. Why else the experiments with showing soccer and awards shows on a racing channel?
The bigger question is how many cable carriers will embrace SPEED2 and whether, or not, it will be part of a basic, expanded or premium package.

to make money for Discovery Networks, which (i think) is owned by NBC..

It used to be to keep the memory of Hitler alive.

I don't understand why Nascar doesn't start/have/get their own channel. It just takes money, right?

It's a lot easier to take over an existing channel with the existing cable/satellite/etc contracts than to build one from the ground up.

Yup. I remember you posting that. The other one - which I cannot ever find when I want to refer to it - is the post where you explained shifting from genre to genre.
Commiecast doesn't carry SPEED2 in my area :( I just hope I can get ALMS/Grand-Am, V8 Supercars, and F1 at a minimum somewhere. Gearz would be nice to have too as it was one of the less paid advertising shows (I hated 2 guys). Velocity seems to be picking up some speed (pun intended) on their shows. Hopefully some of the SPEED shows can find a home there.

Discovery Networks is it's own entity.

I'm sure Comcast and the other large cable companies will pick up SPEED2 once the switch is made, there will be a lot of outcries from NASCAR fans when the coverage lessens.
I don't get to watch much TV anyhow, but I'm still a NASCAR fan. That said, some of the coverage has gotten downright stupid. Their Trackside show used to be decent years ago. Now it's like a hillbilly circus and is completely unwatchable. But I'm hoping the actual racing shows still get covered, or picked up elsewhere.
I know my boys will be upset if they drop "Dumbest Stuff on Wheels". They think it's hysterical...but then again they're in 3rd grade and kindergarden....same intelligence level as the nimrods on the show.
I really really really hope velocity JUMPS at the opportunity to pick up some of the non-nascar stuff that speed had going on. I love velocity, but theres only so much Mecum a guy can take, and reruns of overhaulin and west coast customs get old fast. They already cover events like Isle of Mann, WRC, and some mustang challenge stuff, so hopefully, they will expand their racing coverage to NASA/SCCA road course events and the like, and pull back some of their "filler" rerun crap.
Speed sucked hard for ages. One of their employees even, er, alluded to that and put no small amount of the blame for Speed's alleged 'programming' on the viewers.

Velocity might be able to put it together, man I hope so.
