Yeah. I replaced that motherberkeleyer 3x in the 96 before finding the specs for the HEI mod.

My sister bought a 4cyl version new in '92, and then drove it 250k miles over 10 years. My brother bought it from her, and drove another 100k miles. It was one tough little car!

One of those was one of the only cars that has defeated me in 35 years as a pro. Low end gutless, like so gutless it didn't create enough torque to survive the friction of the release bearing. Up in the rpm range, it was kinda acceptable. I checked everything under the sun, including the cam timing a hundred ways from Sunday, and never could figure what was wrong. I still think there was a spun sprocket or shifted drive pin or something somewhere in the cam timing...

My ex got one of the first GS's dropped off the boat and really enjoyed it until she took a job that required her to be on the road ie interstate constantly. We sold it to a cousin and got her an Altima SE 5spd. He drove it for a number of yrs and then when he graduated from college sent it back to us on consignment to sell for him. The GS was just as much fun to drive if not more because the engine seemed to have freed up quite a bit.
