Mazda paint color name

There is a recent Mazda color that I really like but having trouble finding the name of it. I have seen it on RX8s and Miatas specifically. It is a super dark blue that almost looks black except where the sun hits it, then its deep blue/purple. Anyone know the name or paint code? Might do my motorcycle in that color.

I can't help you on the Mazda question, but BMW has a color that is exactly what you're describing. It's called "Carbon Black". Might be a good option for your bike.

Montego Blue?

Not Montego. That is kinda teal-ish. This one is super dark blue but where the sun hits it, it has blue and a wee bit of purple to it. I tried to find pictures but the problem is, you can never tell how the camera adjusts/exposes, so all I found were a bunch of Royal blue Mazdas.

Phantom Blue Mica?

Nope, not yet. So far all the colors suggested are WAY to light. Think almost black.

Strato Blue?

Possibly Deep Crystal Blue Mica, but that still looks a little light

I actually tried to talk to a guy in a Miata the other day that was the color I liked. I was on my bike and we were side by side at a red light. He saw me trying to get his attention and he ran the red light to get away from me. Strange.

Possible, but still too light. If you saw it on the road, you would think it was black, and then the sun catches a fender flare or hood and you realize its blue.

Here's a better picture. Deep Crystal Blue doesn't come on the MX-5 and never came on the RX-8.

That's the closest so far. Thank you Gbodyman. (and everyone else) I think I'll maybe hit a couple Mazda lots and see if I can find it, but its not common.

Its gotta be Stormy blue. That's the only one that is close in the pictures.

The ones I saw were the most recent generation Miata. I guess that is third gen? NC? The ones that ended production in like 2012.

But that is a lovely color. Very similar to what I'm looking for. Heck, it might be the same color with a different name.

Stormy Blue Mica is the NC & Rx-8's dark blue color you're thinking of. It's awesome. It was my second choice behind the Phantom Blue (first Rx-8 pictured in this thread). We have Deep Crystal Blue on our new 2015 Mazda5, and it's not quite as dark as the Stormy Blue, even though the pictures in this thread show it in reverse. I blame the fact that the Stormy Blue picture was taken in Texas :)

Stormy Blue Mica is nicer than the Deep Crystal Blue in my opinion, but they're both quite nice. I'd guess that the biggest difference is the Mica, which is what causes the purplish effect in high frequency light.

There's also Twilight Blue, which is almost identical but has a bit more purple in the highlight. Another late NA color.
