Just think, all those people are there because your grandma got laid.
In reply to Jesse Ransom :
Meme world is so far removed from reality, it might as well be another dimension. That's why I emphasized "meme world." I'd never give someone guff for real world choices.

Let's not overlook the fact that to get this scenario, someone berked Goofy.
In reply to M2Pilot :
That's only the half of it. Starting at my grandmother there's close to 50 of us. Getting the entire group together takes some doing but we try to do it every 4 or 5 years.

They have no one left to come visit them. Wives are dead, siblings are dead, or too old to visit. They are dying alone with no one left to know they are even alive. I can't imagine a sadder thing.
I can.
They could have had kids and alienated them. They could be left all alone knowing they have people who could come visit, but don't want to.

I'm one of those paranoid people that practically runs to the baggage claim on the rare occasions I have to check a bag. This isn't helping.
Airport life hack:
if you have possessions you don't want lost or stolen, report that you're transporting a firearm in that piece of checked luggage. Suddenly your bag becomes the Pope. They know where it is at all times.

Except that the tag goes on the inside, after they verify the firearm is properly locked up in the bag, and it still shows up at baggage claim.

Or just ending up in one of those places period. Or putting your kids through needing to go visit those places. With my dad being as sick as he was I spent a large part of my youth in hospitals, nursing homes, and hospice centers. The patients in them are depressing enough, but then add in the nursing staff, which is usually strung out, overworked, and/or addicted to something, and I don't know why anyone would choose that unless they truly hated the person they were putting in.
Go out on your own terms, if that means withering away in a nursing home for years on end draining all the money you worked to build up for your family after you're gone, go for it. I prefer a more proactive approach. When I can no longer use the bathroom by myself, I'm done. Let the kids enjoy their good memories without tainting them with diaper changes, sponge baths, and $5k+/monthly "rent" in a care home.

Or this:
Those are your choices. The only difference is, did you have kids? This is my immediate family. Parents, siblings, spouses, grandkids, and great-grandkids. 4 generations. My mother is in the center, my father is on the far left.
My wife has adopted a couple of older gents in the local assisted living facility where her dad is living. She visits them and brings them gifts. They have no one left to come visit them. Wives are dead, siblings are dead, or too old to visit. They are dying alone with no one left to know they are even alive. I can't imagine a sadder thing.
I have 4 kids and 4 grandkids so far. I hope I never experience that.
Maybe it is sad. Maybe its the way they wanted it. We don't have kids. I have no siblings. If I out live the wife I guess I "die alone" but that doesn't bother me. Don't pity us for the choice we knowingly made.

we do too. We are looking for our summer escape and considering 5 days in the Dominican.
