I think they did that as there's a velocity turbo type force that increases velocity and actually sucks the water out the bottom faster than if it was a straight outlet. Check your physics book. F= Ma?

Agreed. To my expert internet racing eye, those bends are obviously better for scavenging than a basic straight run. It's a performance mod.
