Where I used to work, the building was completely redone on the inside. Two giant circuit breaker panels, clearly labeled, and every wall outlet was numbered at the outlet and on the panel. It was a dream.
Where I live, I gave up trying to find the breaker for a certain outlet so I changed it live.
I had to do that with a light fixture in my mother's closet. "Are you going to shut off the breaker?"
I totally understand owning a house that has been ... modified... many times over the decades. Like how the closet light only works when the bathroom light is on... and how the bathroom receptacle only works when the light is on... One reason I want to renovate my house is to completely replace all of the branch circuit wiring.
With a circuit tracer and a P-Touch labeler, it might take a couple of hours to identify and label every circuit in a house. In the commercial world, circuit labels on the receptacles and j-boxes is standard practice.
