Don't say taxes as I'm from Illinois. LOL
Funny thing to read when I'm in Taxachusetts. Ironically the state tax revenue is down, so Mass needs to make budget cuts, just the the rest of us.

I was just out in Wheaton today submitting my tax assessment appeal, so I'm familiar with Illinois at least.
2 of my very close friends have strong ties to Cleveland (one of them, their Grandpa was the regular National Anthem singer for the Browns). I also worked with a bunch of people in Cincinnati... and almost all of them lived in Kentucky.
From my understanding, it gets a bad rap because it was hit hard by the economy of the 70s and 80s, it was largely an industrial state and the industry all left. It is cold and gloomy in the winter, dark and grey, and rather boring to drive through. Think rural Illinois but without the culture that Chicago fosters that seeps outward. Lake Erie was so polluted for so long that it literally caught on fire 50 years ago - or at least the Cuyahoga river did.
Basically imagine the reputation that Illinois would have if we didn't have Chicago. Waukegan, Rockford, Joliet, and East St. Louis don't make for a great reputation.
Unfair? Yeah. I have personally never known anyone to have a bad overall experience with the state and have known at least 5 families that would move back to the state.
Yeah, the wife has family in the Columbus and Dayton area so was wondering if I was missing something.

It's the nation's speed trap.

You think Chicago has a net positive effect on Illinois' reputation?
Yes.
That movie alone gives Chicago a net positive impact to the respective reputations of Illinois, the Midwest, the Great Lakes Region, the North, the United States, North America, and planet Earth itself.

Yeah no. F Chicago. F Illnoying. I feel for the people that live in rural Illinois, they get bent over the hardest. E36 M3cago needs to keep it's gangs and violence there and stop spreading their bs across the midwest.
