I have never read the book or seen the movie. At this point, after the soylent green and starship troopers letdowns, im not sure which i should consume or avoid (movies better in both referenced cases in my opinion. Fight me.)
The book is a masterpiece that holds up as well as or better than a lot of other comparable 20th century fiction (in a league with 2001 and Lord of the Rings). I think it is a substantially better work that Starship Troopers. The movie is wonderful. A masterful work by a singular director at the top of his game creating something he's passionate about.
Should you read the book and watch the movie? I don't know. They definitely are not for everyone. If you like Villeneuve's other films, you should go watch it. If you don't like his style, you won't like this one. As for the book... it's relatively philosophical and introspective science-fantasy with over-the-top characters on an almost mythological level. Do you enjoy when Star Wars gets it's most melodramatic, "I am a Jedi like my father before me..."? Would you enjoy 300 pages of that mixed with peak Game of Thrones political machinations? Then you'd love the book. If that's not your style, then no.
And you are correct that the movie of Starship Troopers was better than the book. Brilliantly satirizing the kind of jingoism the book unironically espouses.

Canadian BUILT Pontiacs had Chevrolet engines.
Canadian market Pontiacs built in America had Pontiac engines.
I remember reading that, when the Pontiac Ram Air V 303 engine failed to come to fruition to allow the '69 Trans Am to run in SCCA Trans Am, there was a team that tried to install a Chevy DZ302 engine out of a Z/28 in a '69 Trans Am and enter it, using the statement of "It's a Canadian Firebird and Canadian-built Pontiacs use Chevy engines, ergo it's legal." The SCCA reply was, "Yes, Canadian-built Pontiacs use Chevy engines, but all Canadian-market Firebirds and Trans Ams are built in the US. Nice try, not allowing it."

I misspoke. Thanks for clearing up the confusion.
And I have no meme. Sorry.

Hope I didn't come across like a jerk.
The Chevy guys in Canada sometimes have a hard time understanding that their engines didn't power everything Pontiac in Canada.

No, not at all! I get most of my knowledge about Canadian vehicles from Cold War Motors, Tim Hus, and Fred Eaglesmith. Very much subject to correction.

Always boggles my mind when you consider the SBC. From 262ci up to 400ci in the exact same unit. That's 4.3L to 6.6L for the Canadians in the chat. Nearly 50% increase in displacement from the earliest iteration.
The Ford Crossflow, I think, had a 60% increase, from 1000cc to 1600. The neat thing is that they all had the same bore. The 1000cc engines had a VERY short stroke.
Lots of engines from the era were built with a ton of room to grow. Pontiac V8s went from 265ci to 455ci! Same deck height and all.

Pontiac went from a 326 to a 455 on the same basic block.
Shhhh...
You'll confuse all the "big block / small block" guys.
*Laughs in LA, B, and RB Mopar*
Ford guys titter to themselves.
"Hey I got an idea, let's make a new engine family using half the same tooling!"
"Hey let's do another one"
"Is it really that weird to have three 351(352) engines at the same time, and a 427, 428, and 429?"
"Hey let's take THIS engine and run it through THAT decking broach to make another engine family!"
"Now let's destroke it to 351ci with the crank from this completely other engine. You can't have enough 351s"
(Three decades later)
"Hey let's make a 5.8l version of the Modular..."
Also, "Let's bring back a Big Block in 2020 but only sorta"
