Reading the article, it sounds like a testament to what happens when someone lets emotions run unchecked with logic.
C'mon. Alpacas ain't wildlife. Domesticated since 6,000 BC, there are no Alpacas in the wild.
Interesting critters though. When males fight, the object is to get your opponent to the ground and castrate him by biting them off.
They have sex doggie style with the Mom sitting on the ground (called cooshing)
Mom knows within 2 hours if she's pregnant, after that no one gets near her.
Their digestive system is so efficient their manure is useless as fertilizer, it's just fill dirt. My friend raises them for fur.

While the above referenced article mentions that alpacas were kept, they are not listed among the wild animals killed by the state.
The animals included a small deer that was taken in, in the fall at around two weeks old; Sassy, a half-blind raccoon with Down syndrome; and Po, a one-legged crow a child had brought in.
