One of my friends is a driving instructor and his company is highly rated because they teach driving and driving "ethics" (for lack of a better term) instead of what you need to pass the exam. People sign on for additional lessons because they want them.
OTOH they also specialize in adult training, not just "my kid is 16 they need a drivers license now" drivers Ed.
Looking at the quality of drivers on the road today, I'm good with a little gatekeeping.

How about this? For your automaker to turn on autopilot, you have to take a super boring 8-hour class. If you stay awake, you get autopilot. If you fall asleep or pull out your phone, you fail. No autopilot for you.
