When my friends and I were big into LAN deathmatching with Q3A and UT, we had to upgrade the computers to USB keyboards because the non USB keyboards could only handle two keys at a time. This meant that sometimes your inputs would lock. (Maybe I have this backwards)
Also, arrow keys are superior to WASD because middle fingers don't bend that way. And optical mice may be better from a reliability standpoint but you can't "throw" them like you can with a ball mouse.
Arrow key ergonomics are better, but they aren't surrounded by extra buttons you can bind your weapons to :(

Our games tended to be... frantic. If you took the time to change weapons you were done. Matches might have lasted 2 minutes with a 30 frag limit.

That's known as "key rollover" and it has way more to do with the internal wiring of the keyboard than the interface, I remember I stuck to PS/2 mice and keyboards for as long as possible to maximize the free USB ports and I had an ancient beige AT-port keyboard with decent rollover.
Edit: Requisite meme
You wanted plenty of rollover for old-school PC split-screen gaming:

So, the person that's making a point about lack of detail placed 1997 in an opposite direction to 2012 and 2016.

I get your point, but it's not particularly relevant.

The thing that impressed me with Hot Wheels is that they've been able to stay basically the same price; with inflation they're probably as inexpensive as they've ever been.
What do matchbox (same parent company) look like nowadays underneath?
