Coming out of a Miata into an ITC Fiesta (as in the early 80's variety) I went for a red line 3-4 up shift and down shifted to 2nd instead! Sheared the bolts off the flywheel and popped the engine.

Yup, did that in a Toyota Starlet and it spun all the friction material off the clutch disc.
I went 3rd to 2nd drag racing my '64 Corvette back in the day. Didn't win that race. Bent all the exhaust valves but none of the intake valves. Limped 40 miles to home.

I'd swear a good portion of the BMW aftermarket is based on selling transmission parts to help prevent the dreaded "money shift". After some experience with an M3 and an E30, I can understand why.
