Wrong. Splitters don't need to be engineered for that kind of point load. In fact, if they are, they're too heavy.

We must be in same age group as far side is OG men. I checked these books out in middle school.
Also Calvin and Hobbs

Id say that comics are the original meme. Especially single panel ones like far side.
Except that memes can actually be funny, comic strips all suck. The Far Side is the worst, fite me
What are you, 13?
It's hard for me to relate to a mechanical engineer who doesn't like The Far Side!
What has this world come to???
Man Far Side and Calvin were very big part of my youth, and I'm sure played a large part in developing my sense of humor and sarcasm, we watched a lot of Steve Martin and listened to a lot of Ray Stevens in our house too.
I've still got several of my Far Side and Calvin & Hobbs books in our office. I had Far Side calenders, and T shirts. My Midvale School for the Gifted T shirt was my favorite. I had another T shirt with a pair of mosquitos on an arm drinking blood, one blowing up like a ballon, and the other yelling, "pull out Betty, pull out, you've hit an artery!"
I don't know how the girls could keep their hands off of me in Jr. high & high school?
I almost think I would consider despair.com the original MEMEs.
And The Far Side, Calvin, and Non-Sequitur were some of my favorite comics!

Oh, there have been plenty of good ones. I recall Sunday's after church, all the family at grandma's for lunch, I'd grab the paper, and go straight for the comics. Haggar the Horrible, Wizard of Id, and BC were all favorites of mine. I especially liked the ants on BC. There are plenty of classics too, Peanuts, Beetle Bailey, Dennis the Menace, Dagwood, Popeye, Ziggy, etc. I had a stuffed Ziggy doll when I was little, and we still call giant sandwiches Dagwoods.
