Don't be mistaken, I'm on your side and I think it was funny, and I didn't mind the Bernie memes.
This. Quoting my old post because it is applicable again.

Politics according to GRM: Any name, photo, quote, sound, smell, taste, or feeling associated with someone who has ever held, or run for a political office, held a political opinion, voted, or read the news.
Joseph Ducreux was made a baron in return for painting Marie Antoinette. I believe that at this time ~1770, the Chamber of Peers/peerage/whatever had a somewhat constitutional function. Therefore, this is political.
P.S. I am outraged at all previous posts of Ducreux!

To me, the Bernie Sanders memes were not political, the source of the humor came from the pose and attire and attitude of an old man sitting in the chair. That he happened to be a somewhat prominent politician was incidental. As long as the meme itself did not dive into a discussion of his policies, they were not political.
Obviously the forum begged to differ, as they removed a whole page of them and slapped us on the wrist. While I respectfull disagree, it's their forum and their rulese and definitions, so I am doing what they say.

Change the pic to a 63 Lincoln Continental or 2020 MKZ or 1999 Town Car etc, then it would be a car meme and not political, right? :)
By todays standards it would then be racist because at one time there was an unwritten rule at Lincoln dealers about selling cars to certain folks.
I'm confident that the Bernie meams were posted for their humor and not for political intent but they clearly bother someone so why would anyone want to keep posting them once they know that? If our hosts are concerned that they'll bother someone we should support them and if it's our hosts themselves who have an issue then that's all the more reason to apologize and move on.

There is a pretty big difference between a politician who died over 150 years ago and a current one.

It's easier to just avoid posting them. Probably also not the one Photoshopped into that scene from Basic Instinct.
I've found a way to explain this in meme form.
