Cut the shrink wrap in half down the tube. Place around wire. Glue back together with super glue. The cheap dollar store stuff is perfect.  Once dry, shrink tube normally.

I'm a big REK Jr. fan and his rendition is my favorite.  I always cuss Sherry a little bit at the end.

I'm sad to admit I didn't realize his is a cover of these guy's until about 5 years ago.

I made an esoteric REK Jr. meme.

REKs was the original. He wrote it, not any of the Highwaymen. Listen to his intro to it on Live Diner. 
 

Sure enough, I thought The Highwaymen's album (and title track) of the same name was much older than it is, but it was released in '95, and REK wrote it.
