Yes, that was downright cruel of Nissan. After what Mazda did to us, though, maybe it's a blessing in disguise.
Mazda turned the RX-7 into a boulevard cruiser, then an expensive fragile supercar, then stopped bringing it to the US. People got their hopes up when it was announced they were going back to the basics with a whole new car.... and then they gave us a Saturn SC2 with extra weight and no midrange torque. And then the engines were unreliable despite being nonturbo.
