A free flowing exhaust usually increases fuel economy. I have seen as much as 32mpg from an RX-7 that way.
Hell, I've seen 27mpg with an engine that idled at 4" of vacuum at 1500rpm.
After the first few tanks...
As for WHY i do enjoy rotaries that idle at 4" of vacuum at 1500rpm... it "doesn't suck"
