Hey now.
On two separate occasions I have saved myself at least $1000 each time by fixing my own furnace instead of paying someone to come do it.
The last time, the estimate was $1300 to replace a $100 part literally held on with 4 screws and immediately accessible, when I had already correctly diagnosed the problem and told the tech what part to bring.
Yeah, the lady in your bottom picture is probably sleeping pretty well after avoiding that kind of ripoff.
