Dude, we've totally got flying cars. Anyway, those things you posted could lap the Nurburg ring before anything from the 60's hooked up and got traction.

I literally could not care less. Not one bit. Those things could beat a DTCC car around the 'Ring and I wouldn't be caught dead in one.

I get your point, I'm just sick and tired of the whole 'everything old is awesome and everything new is crap' attitude that permeates this place at time. We're currently in, or possibly coming to the end of, the greatest era for car guys we've ever had. Let's be greatful for that.

I think you're right, and IMO that's actually part of the problem. If i'm being honest, the hot Camry now (XSE i think, the "Grounded to the Ground" one) is faster and handles better than any car i've ever owned. And any of those performance SUV's that Duke hates the looks (X6M Coupe for example) of could probably smoke 90% of roadgoing vehicles. But, they are ugly and don't really excite me. Except for the Stelvio Quattrofologio.. I'd court bankruptcy for one of those..

There is a mid-engined Corvette. Lotus still sells cars. They still make Mustangs, Camaros and Challengers and they all have more horsepower that the old ones did, plus a computer screen in the dash that controls the satellite radio and the GPS. You can still buy a new Alfa Romeo. Ferrari and Lamborghini still make exotics. McLaren makes exotics today and they only made race cars in the 70s. You can still buy a new Porsche. You can still buy a new Aston Martin that is faster than old the old Aston Martins. There are Paganis and Konigseggs and those didn't exist in the old days. And speaking of the old days, you can now buy a brand new Bugatti.

All I want is a low roofline and a low beltline and sitting no more than 10" off the floor (preferably 6 or so) and a trunk. Preferably with a small revvy engine, but I will accept as large as 2 liters
The Frisbee twins are close. Fugly, but close.

You have the Frisbees and the Miata at an affordable level. At higher price you get Z4, Supra, Boxster, and Corvette. There's a solid supply of hot hatches, and the GR Corolla is about to launch with a Curb weight on par with my S2000.
In my lifetime, I'm trying to think of a time when there were any more offerings that ticked all those boxes. The only one that really comes to mine is a brief window in the early 90's when you could get the Miata, MR2, and Fiero. And I'll happily pass on the Fiero.
I'm excited about the GR Corolla.
In reply to Beer Baron :
Those are all sporty cars, though.
I want just a car. Like an E30 or a Nissan B13, nothing fancy. Base model, even.
In reply to Beer Baron :
Just trying to be factual. The Miata came out in late 89 but the Fiero ended it's run in 88.

And I still can't afford any of them, so I guess it's all academic to my world.

In the 60s, you could get a 124, MGB, TR6, Alfa Spider, 1600, AH 3000 (too big?), Sprite, Midget, Dino, S500, Opel GT, 912, 914, Alpine/Tiger... Most if not all of those at the same time, and I'm probably missing a bunch as I was only thinking of convertibles (mostly).
EDIT: Missed the part about your lifetime. Nevermind.
