Re country music. I can't say I'm a big fan, at least not usually. There is real stuff out there, but for me it's not about the content or emotion or authenticity.
I just don't like how it sounds. I don't like banjos. Ever. Most of the time I'm really annoyed by the cadence and drawl of the vocals. Even when I find myself in the mood to listen to some, a little goes a long way.
There are a few artists I really enjoy, Shooter Jennings, Darryl Scott, Sturgill... but I almost never listen to a whole album.
Anyway.
*meme changed for more relevance. Another beef I have with most country artists. #caposarecrutches

Here is how you find Country and Hip Hop that aren't about the product placement...
(For those who don't know, that is T Bone Burnett and Rick Rubin. Pick your top 5 musical acts. Chances are, at least one of them has produced at least one of their albums.)

Okay, you're right about that.
I'm pretty susceptible to sad reminiscences right now, since the final closing of Pompano Park this week. That's where the picture in my GRM avatar was taken.
At times like this, I'm grateful for GRM.

What about Steve Martin's banjo?
In reply to 1988RedT2 :
I like Steve Martin.
I find the sound of a banjo to be about on par with a kazoo in terms of musicality. Sure, you can play a tune on one, but I'd rather not hear it. Just my opinion. I also don't like apple pie, my favorite Metallica album is St. Anger, and I'll take vanilla over chocolate every time.
There's no bad instruments, but there can be bad music.
I submit this to make my point. One of the greatest pieces of classical orchestral music, performed on a pair of widely derided instruments.
In reply to Floating Doc (Forum Supporter) :
I didn't say they were objectively bad. Just that I don't like them. And I provided other examples of where my taste is considered questionable.
Your example is a good one though. Personally I don't understand the perception of accordions, other than the music they are usually utilized in. On the opposite end are all those gimmicky videos on my IG feed of folks playing acoustic guitars in unconventional ways. I love guitars in all shapes and forms, but when I see 100 different versions of someone playing bad covers where they have 5 people playing the same guitar together, or someone using the thing as a drum/guitar hybrid, or "OMG he's fretting notes with both hands!"... Well I've been told that in these situations it's best that I don't say anything at all. /rant
Unrelated.

You're right, you did say that. My mistake. Good meme, BTW.

I enjoyed the accordion Vivaldi, but I was horror-stricken by the wearing of dress shoes sans socks.

Apparently Steve Martin never heard Otis Taylor play...
Banjo and Accordian in the same song, and it is tremendous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_K_PMVdb-c0
In reply to Hungary Bill (Forum Supporter) :
I can’t take credit for my recent interest in country music, that goes to my son. He spent a couple of years in Texas at grad school and kept sending me playlists of great artists like Turnpike Troubadours, Charley Crockett, Flatland Cavalry, Corb Lund and a bunch of others. Excellent musicians and songwriters all drawing on the examples you posted. I never would have been exposed to it up here in the NE, what’s playing on the few “country” stations up here is really Nashville Pop and it’s terrible in comparison. Meme related:

That's possible. It's also possible that Steve Martin, in addition to being an accomplished musician, is also fairly well-known as a comedian. So he might have been joking.
Can you guess what is in the box?
