yeah that's some bad stuff. Theres some drug in Russia right now that's even worse called krokodil. It makes people look like super-meth heads. I guess the drug itself isn't so much the problem, it's all the impurities from them making it in their kitchens. The life expectancy of a user is like 1-2 years. Don't google it unless you have a strong stomach. Seriously. If zombies walking around with exposed bones doesn't make you barf, you'll probobly be alright, but they aren't zombies.

Holy crap.

And I dug too far trying to find non-zombie info. Holy crap. IO9 has an article on it. Don't read it. Yup, straight up zombie stuff going on. Cannot be unseen. Read the wiki and stop there.

If you really think about it, its only a "little worse" than meth. Pretty much everybody knows, and has known for a decade or so, the horrible crap that's in meth and the way its going to waste your body. I spoke with a recovering addict just this week. Nice looking young lady . . . except for the fact that she had only one tooth left. Here's cliff notes of her experience: You never think you're going to get hooked. You think you can dabble and not get hooked. Its fun at first, but never enough. Eventually, without realizing it, you're hooked. Once you're hooked, its the only thing that matters. Your friends, family and health are a distant second to getting high, if you think about them at all. You realize what you are doing to yourself, but the drugs are just more important than anything else.

EDIT: Have to keep up with drug trends for work, so I've looked into croc. You are correct, you can't believe what you are looking at. Straight up "walking dead" as far as I'm concerned. Really, though, its just an "order of magnitude" issue when compared to meth.

Gangrene. Their flesh is literally rotting off their bones. It's a horrible thing and you usually don't see it - even in the 3rd world - because your body fights it pretty effectively. But it seems the impurities in the krokodil knock out those protections.

My sister, an ER nurse, has dealt with a couple "minor" gangrene cases in the local homeless population and it sounded bad enough (toes falling off, etc) but nothing as horrible as the krokodil photos. Yikes.

We have Krokadil here in Hungary too. Pretty common in Budapest and the Gypsy camps. I asked a buddy why the crap anyone would do something like that knowing the effects it's going to have and his answer was "They can't afford good drugs here".

Note: By "good drugs" he was referring to drugs with a name that you could semi-guess what was in it. (ie: pot, acid, heroin etc)

I also heard there's people here looking for/buying a certain paint thinner. I guess they put some on their tongue? I've heard of huffing before, but imbibing?

good times I guess...

Does it make me a bad person that I don't particularly care? I also don't really care when drunks freeze to death, or choke to death on their own vomit.

If you are willing to risk damaging yourself that way, and you die, tough beans.

Lose a couple loved ones, say a daughter, or a father, that way and maybe you would care.

People are fallible and even the best of us can end up despondent and hopeless at some point in our lives. The wrong push and you can be hooked. It's heartbreaking to see - if you have feelings.

I don't care either, and I have people like that in my extended family. Then again, I think blood is thicker than water is bullE36 M3, and it's the people you truly consider friends (blood or otherwise) to matter most.

It's not my responsibility to take care of other people, my friends and family come first. The thing with addicts is they are just that, ADDICTS. It's not just one thing, it's their whole personality. As such, there is (in my mind) no way to cure them (just like a pedophile will always like kids). It's a mental issue that can't be changed, the only way for anything to be done is for the individual to ACTIVELY take responsibility for themselves and remove themselves from their addiction. Which I am not going to deny, is extremely hard and wouldn't wish that on anyone. BUT, when someone is so selfish as to not even try? Screw them.

Wake up one day and say, I think I'll jeopardize my job, royally berkeley my life and family up w/ crack, heroin, meth etc.... C'mon ppl, there's enough warnings and examples of failures out there in this day and age.

I just don't get it.

Agreed. I made the mistake of clicking on one of the Russian language links down in the footnotes. I really don't know how the wounds get so big without the sepsis killing them first.
