I have a close friend retiring from Active Duty. The DoD has a great program called Skillbridge that allows members to take up to 6 months to go perform an internship at no cost to the employer.

Said friend has a well versed background in Aerospace Maintenance and a huge gearhead. He's been striking out on finding internships related to anything of the sort. He's been reaching out to many companies with no response, which is wild, considering they'd have free labor for up to six months.

Anyways, if anyone has any recommendations on where he should look or set his sights on that would be awesome. He's ideally looking for something in the aviation or automotive management sectors.

My current employer talks up the mil-experience / Skillbridge options they offer.  See here;

https://www.textron.com/Careers/Military-Veterans    - I have no first-hand experience with this, just passing on what I hear.

I'd look at Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, etc defense contractors obviously.  Going a more automotive route sounds nice but I have no advice there.

If he's not working on a LinkedIn profile to get attention and network, I'd suggest he start working on that pretty hard and often.

Where's he located? I'd echo the above and look at defense contractors.

I sent a PM your way since I happen to work for one of the big defense contractors.

You'll need to log in to post.
