My wife got pulled aside by her younger co-workers when their manager (who's the same age as sleepywife) decided to name a new process something that acronymed as "DTF"

"sleepywife, you cannot let this be named that" she was implored.

also, I once had a technical manager demand that I add their code change to the main repository under my own log-in (which was against required procedures).  So, I used the "reason field" to write "{managers name} is a {donkey version of a shiny happy person}", stopped and looked them dead in the eye to make sure they had an opportunity to see what I'd written.  Next week was the first time they conducted the required review of all the code changes and associated reason descriptions (a meeting I was not in attendance for).  Said technical manager, red-faced, had to explain the change, why it was under my account, and the comment...

and yet I got a talking to that my reasons needed to be "more professional"

So, after sleepywife got home, I showed her this... and I first got informed that she was unsuccessful in dissuading that acronym, as quoted (paraphrased) from the manager:

"that [vulger] use of the acronym can't be that common, because I've never heard of it"

I was similarly unsuccessful in preventing a report in our software from being called the RAP3 report.

Would have sailed right by me. I have no idea what DTS stands for. No, I will not google it to find out.

Quite often used in a context regarding casual sex. 

If a person worries about an acronym being hijacked by idiots, there can be no acronyms anymore.

When my nephew was about 6-7 he wanted to come ride on a bus so when we had our company Roadeo i drug a bunch of my inlaws out to Brooklyn.  Rather than shake hands most of us fist bump and when they went home my sister in law kept telling people that she thought it was funny that my friends and I go around fisting each other.  After a couple days my brother in law couldn't keep a straight face anymore and told her what fisting more commonly referred too.  She was horrified and then felt she had to go around to everyone she had talked to and explain that we weren't all standing around in a parking lot violating each other. 

I saw this truck at a gas station in the Chicago ‘burbs today and it made my day.

I worked in the white good industry many years ago, designing dishwashers. This was in Italy (yes, I lived a bit here and there). We had a dishwasher with "XL" stamped into the inner Stainless Steel door, so that it would show when you opened up the unit. A competitor then came out with a unit showing "XXL" in the same spot. Our (very) senior Marketing Manager presented, in a hilariously embarrassing meeting, that our next design would have "XXX" stamped into the door and written on the upper baskets handle. He spent much time explaining that the "L" was no longer needed, due to the international and universal meaning of X as something of large size. If this was well received, we would make it a common attribute over the product line.

His younger assistant told him in the coffee break what XXX was typically associated with. He took it well.

As I was viewing this thread, a commercial for these came on the TV:

Announcer: "Try Olay Daily Facials!"

The VW shift knob i bought off eBay came in the mail today. It didn't fit. The process of making it fit has taken weird and confusing turns involving a sawzall and some epoxy. Later it will involve sand paper and paint. I have no idea what I'm doing over here but it's fun.

My Fit is rated at 130hp. I believe that is at the crank. I think it is plenty.

I revved my 2.3l powered ranger at some kid who was bouncing his civic off the rev limiter at a stop sign. Then I laughed.

That's 30hp more than my similarly-sized Golf had and it was just about perfect.

For the second year in a roll my daily drivers are dying right before the Challenge but instead of fixing them I'm spending my free time on the Challenge car.

I just explained to my daughter's fiancee how to leave her presence at the end of the night without being sucked back into any random discussion or issue my daughter brings up as he is heading out the door. Fatherhood -1 Brotherhood +10.

I will drive my B13 Sentra before just about anything else, unless it's a highway trip.  Volvo seats and A/C for the win then.

I have a plasma cutter and a welder, with a tape measure maybe we could transform the Porsche to a T?

I normally don't believe in charging a friend for helping them, but I'm too greedy to say no to $100 for a half hour of work the third time you offer it.

The bmw has had the cel off for 3 consecutive drive cycles. 

Im wondering if the bulb burned out.
