As much as I like the newer Focuses, that whole auto trans debacle they're going through just makes me run away.

I wouldn't say no to a Focus hatch with a manual, though.

I like the hatches, too.  I test drove a Focus ST at one point, and really liked it (but not as much as the Fiesta ST).  The DCT situation has been ridiculous, and now I'm finding that leaking capacitors and other ECM failures are not all that uncommon on 2010's era Fords, either.  I usually don't write off an entire automaker, but outside of a Mustang, I don't think I'd take a chance on any late model Ford anymore.

If you can find a 1.0 3 cylinder, they have regular torque converter automatics in them.

Yeah, I leased a 2015 Focus for 3 years and it started having transmission shuddering at 10,000 miles. I thought I did something to break it until I learned all about the DCT debacle. Got it serviced under warranty, that helped a bit but it was still not perfect.

One time it even threw a huge red error message up on the dash saying "SERVICE VEHICLE NOW". I was almost home, so I kept driving. Turned it off when I got home, turned it back on the next day, no more error.

I'd love to get a manual-transmission Focus one day though. Either an ST or the 3-cylinder with the 6-speed. Rare as hen's teeth though, that one.

I have the easy job of earning money while she watches our two kids and 2yo niece. We've all been sick to varying degrees for about three weeks. Rant one.

Rant two. The colds seem to be over. Which is great. We've moved past that. Now we're all throwing up.

TM has had the plague (or maybe just a terrible cold) since Christmas eve.  I'm ready for her to get better, yes I'm a bad person but c'mon already.

I... just don't think I like having house guests for more than a night or two, especially if they're not family. It's only been a few nights but I'm more than ready for the show to be over and the guest dancer staying with us to be out of the house.

Bonus: the second dancer/houseguest is showing up today. I'd be glad it's warming up so I can go bang on things (or toss things around, given what I need to be doing is cleaning/organizing) in the garage, but I'm going to be stuck doing show stuff for the rest of the week.

Other rant: the QX4 has NOT wanted to start for the last week or so. It's taken a lot of cranking and tries (because of the apparently missing/damaged teeth on the flex plate so the starter will sometimes just spin) to get it going the last few times. I need to at least do a basic tune-up on it, but again- will be stuck doing show stuff for the rest of the week, and I don't have a backup vehicle at the moment besides the scooter. For now am going to buy some injector/fuel system cleaner and dump that in with a tank of premium and hope that improves things until I can change the plugs, fuel filter, etc. next week.

Tearing me a new one when I'm trying to pay you to do a job is a great way to guarantee you won't get my money. Yes lawyer lady, I know you want a deposit to do the work. Maybe, since you have the "request work" form on your website you could have an option to take payment? Oh, but you need a sales agreement before running the search? Why didn't you tell me that on the phone? No, I've never bought a house before, I don't know how this E36 M3 works, maybe you ought to tell me instead of bitching about whatever it is you're droning on about.

Just used CVS’s automated phone system to refill a proscription…very polite computer voice let me know that it would be ready for pick-up on December 23rd, 2019 and asked if I needed it sooner.frown

This is the same very polite computer voice that told me my proscription was ready for pick-up on December 23rd, 2019 causing me to waste forty minutes on the road to learn they were actually stocked-out.

There’s a CVS five minutes from my house but they berk up proscriptions 65%+ of the time “Z Pack…what’s this exotic med you speak of???” so I’ve been willing to make a road trip to avoid them but it appears there’s no escape.

Time to enroll in an on-line delivery service…2019 was suuuper busy so I couldn’t take care of it until now.

In reply to RX Reven' :

Our benefits plan uses CVS Caremark for prescription service, and it's been great so far.  They text me a couple weeks before refills are due, I approve the refill whenever I'm ready, and I get the stuff about 2-3 days later.  Very painless.

We also just did a walk-in for DD#2's strep and had no issues even at a CVS branch we'd never been to.  It was only Amoxicillin, but it was late afternoon on New Year's Eve, and the pharmacy looked overworked and understaffed.  They said it might take 20-30 minutes so we sat down to wait.  It took less than 10.

Contrast that to the Rite Aid that is 2 blocks from my house.  Any time you drop off a prescription they tell you it will be ready in 2 hours.  So then they let it sit until whenever you come back to pick it up, whereupon they take another half an hour to fill it.  I won't even go there to buy a quart of milk from them any more.

Maybe if you were standing directly in front of me holding up the cash, I would consider $15 for the washer bottle and pump...  But if I took your $15 via eBay, I'd lose $13 shipping it, $1.50 to eBay, and then another $.75 to paypal - even more than that if they're going to do that sales tax BS.  That means that my best-case outcome in that situation is that it costs me a quarter to send you a washer bottle.  I can throw it in the Dumpster for free.

But thank you for reminding me that I forgot to set the "automatically reject all offers below" field on that listing.

Microsoft software versions, naming schemes, and release methods are constantly infuriating to anyone in IT. Case in point, the versions of SQL Server Data Tools (SSDT - no I don't understand what we use it for either) which I have been trying to install on a Citrix server for a business unit. This post from the internet sums it up perfectly:

"The version that ships with VS 2017 is labeled 15.1.6180.210, however the latest from the download page is labeled Release number: 15.6.0 and Build number: 14.0.16162.0?

The version for 2015 is labeled release number: 17.4 and build number: 14.0.61712.050

How is anyone supposed to know which version is which? 2015 is labeled version 17 and 2017 is labeled version 15? The build number for 2017 is 15.x but the newest version is 14.x?

Are you purposefully trying to make our heads explode?"

Oh, and not to mention, if you dare install it on a computer with no direct internet access it will fail and you'll have to pull what's left of your hair out figuring out how to do an offline install.

Rant one: Came across a free Craftsman self-propelled lawnmower with a Honda engine. Couldn't get it to start after power washing and making sure it had gas. Didn't feel like throwing anything else at it and posted it to Facebook for like, $75 obo.

Immediately, a guy offers from $20 after a sob story. When I didn't respond, he sent a separate sob story. Then kept blowing up my phone.

Decided to remove the engine, dump the base, and part out the engine. Currently have the fuel tank and recoil listed.

Rant two: Don't tell me you'll respond to a person, requesting more info, to only not do that, but when he responds asking if anything was found, to then essentially throw me under the bus.

Why I'd ever wanna leave this place is beyond me.

You try to help a kid out.

I'm selling my Echo. Other than a small exhaust leak, the car is legit. At least as legit as an Echo can be. He wants his mechanic to look at it. I have nothing to hide, but I'm not driving 3 hrs return and waiting for his mechanic to look at a cheap POS car. So I agree to let him take it somewhere local to me. He makes an appointment at Canadian tire. I warn him, and almost refuse, but I reluctantly agree, I mean, how bad can it be,  its a solid low mileage granny car.  They hand the dufus a $4000 repair estimate. So I wasted 2 hrs of my not particularly valuable time and return to my house mildly angry. Only to see that my dog locked himself in the bathroom, which he usually does only in a storm, and proceeded to exit the only way he knows how.  Through the unopened door that he completely destroyed along with the new vinyl flooring.

I heard this morning that the corner store in the village is now selling liquor

Shoulda said no.  There are very few other shops that i will throw under the bus, but CT is definitely one of them.

And somehow, it gets worse.

The cameras are berkeleying mislabeled. The person who was naming this site apparently doesn't know their West from their East.

That's not hours wasted just downloaded the video or hours wasted looking through the video.

No.

Instead, the one camera we have that is pointing where it needs to has the car three spots out of frame. If I'm lucky, I'll be able to see if anything happened as soon as they come in to frame, but unlikely.

I know. My last correspondence to him last night was that I used to be in that business and I'm really uncomfortable taking my car to Canadian tire. You should be too

I expected some shenanigans, but apparently my imagination is not nearly as sharp as theirs. On a bright note, the shop was empty so maybe the word is getting out. My local guy is booked weeks in advance.

Buddy, you'd never make it as a Canadian tire 'tech'. Either you have it or you don't

The e brake goes up too many notches, the rear brakes must be replaced, shoes, drums and hardware. It goes on like that for 3 pages to the tune of $4000, including the headlight lens restoration for $300

Back when I was apprenticing, if you worked at CT nobody else in the industry would hire you. I don't know if it's still like that, but I sure hope so

This is a very minor rant and maybe more of an observation but some of the members on various automotive forums I'm on crack me up with their forum signature that includes a 1024x768 pic of their vehicle along with a half page paragraph list of mods including the type of lightbulbs they have, the brand and weight of oil they use and the floormats they have installed.

I really enjoy seeing your stupid signature 17 times a page with your two word post.
