I ordered spices from a local vendor for a beer I'm brewing tomorrow. Their warehouse is literally across the street, but they have no way to run cards there.

We're out of checks.

There's pennies involved and they don't have a way to make change. Plus then I'm raiding the bar's register for something unrelated to them.

Ended up getting resolved with a phone call and several texts.

But still... we're out of checks.

I carry $75k in coverage for stored materials. I contacted the insurance company to get a COI for $52k in operators so I can prove coverage and the contractor will pay the invoice I just sent them.

Their response was that due to the impending hurricane, they couldn't provide a COI. What? I already have the coverage. Your underwriter will be paying for the operators either way. I need these operators listed specifically for the 2 months they will be in my warehouse. Send me the berkeleying COI for the coverage that I have been paying for. Not to mention I requested this COI over a week ago.

Crickets.

There's a good chance I'll be changing insurance companies by the end of next week.

Do you want to know why the local brick-and-mortar companies are going out of business? It's because there are too many hungry online companies out there that provide better service at better prices. I don't mind paying a premium price but it does require premium service to go with that price.

I paid $17k for my wedding 20 years ago, the girlfriend paid $25k for hers about 10 years ago. We both had really nice fairytale weddings that we enjoyed. Getting remarried came up when we were at her mom's a while back. We both laughed. If/when it happens it's going to be a bbq in the backyard, with probably a friend officiating. Quick, and easy.

The Dancer and I had both been married before and had traditional weddings, so had no particular interest in doing that again. Honestly we probably wouldn't have bothered actually getting formally married, but we were at the time hoping to have kids and actively working on buying a house together so figured it would be much easier legally if we were married. Got married at the courthouse with a few close friends in attendance, went on a honeymoon cruise, and a few months later spend a modest amount to have a 'reception' for our families and friends at one of our favorite restaurants (which is now sadly closed). Never regretted doing it that way for a second.

We went to see Mt. Joy in concert last night. The show was great. They wrapped up by 10:30 and I was in bed my midnight.

My rant: I'm at the age where I wake up at an ungodly hour and need to pee. I wasn't having it last night and managed to roll back over and fall back asleep. Unfortunately the dog really wants/needs to be let out at 5:45 - 6:00AM every morning since the kiddos went off to college last week (he slept in when he was sharing a bed with one of them). Once I get up I have a really hard time falling back to sleep. I'm really dragging ass today.

The old bag at the title and tag office was a miserable bitch and had some serious talk down to me. She'll probably go home and kick her dog.

This is why I don't like meeting or dealing with new people these days

Chances are they are going to be shiny happy people.

Update on the on my trucks rear end:

Opened it up and there wasn't damage that I can see, no chunks or huge amounts of metal shavings.

But what I did find is the fluid was exceptionally thin, like .....thinner than 10-30 motor oil, but more than say ...WD-40. 75-140w seems to be making a difference

So my rant of the day is that whenever owned my truck before obviously used something other than gear oil for the rear end

If a change of oils fixes what has already reached the "Clunk" stage you should have spent the day buying lottery tickets!

I hate algorithmically-selected content. It feels like they see you saying no to stuff and double down. You blocked five channels with this content? Must mean you're secretly into it.

YouTube Shorts sucks.

I get the opposite.  I misclick and suddenly I am getting nothing but retrogaming TED talks about the intricacies of the 6809 processor.

YouTube Shorts sucks.

And there is no way to disable it.

YouTube:  a very few channels are making Shorts work, mostly with useless silly fluff different from their normal videos.  But very true that in general Shorts sucks badly.  The most inexplicably stupid thing: no volume control, only mute/unmute.  Eat me, Shorts, I am not messing with my system volume.

Strange how the term "enE36 M3tification" applies to the last 3x posts (sorta, either 'literally' or whatever the opposite is).

I did the "site:grassrootsmotorsports.com" search thing with no results before, now I want to know if Google sees enE36 M3tification or enE36 M3tification, and I'm including enE36M3tification so I can tell if Google has looked.

[Edit: HA!, the link didn't work b/c the word filter applied to the URL too...]

I don't think I've ever seen a YT short.

I had some banking to do last week, and since there was no option to do what I wanted at the machine I visited one of the three tellers. And since there were only three I was a while. When I was I done asked the receptionist at the bank's entrance where the washroom was. Oh, we don't have public washrooms. I'm not the public, I'm a 35 year customer. Well, you see we're not obligated to have washrooms because we don't serve food... Sure, keep digging that hole deeper, you idiot.

Last night I tried to e-transfer $50 to my buddy and got the message this transaction seems different compared to your normal banking activity... It's not, it's perfectly normal for me, but they wanted to text a one time code. They have my home phone on my account and it's listed as a land line. The only other option was to use the app to scan my drivers license. Good luck with that one. I don't give out my cell number, and I don't install apps on it. I called customer service, went through two people and the answer in the end? Sorry, we can't help you.

PB is getting a new bank today.

I want to support my wife cooking more meals and encourage her to do so more often... but she really doesn't understand how long it takes her to cook a meal and doesn't plan things out to cook when she actually has the time.

My wife has the same issue. If you figure it out, let me know. We frequently eat late due to poor planning of meals and cooking time. It's super frustrating to me because I prefer dinner around 5:30-6:00 pm, not 7:30 or later.

The planning isn't the problem. It's the times. My wife is very optimistic in her start times.

You can't bake a chicken in 45 minutes. While I really like a medium-rare roast, I'm not interested in medium-rare chicken. If you start cooking at 5:30 there is zero chance it will be ready to eat by 6:00 or even 6:30.

You can't cook butter beans in 30 minutes and no matter where you live or how hot you get the pot, rice takes 20 minutes to cook. It will scorch in 15 minutes but it will not cook in 15 minutes.

Damn it. I have abscess that makes it extremely painful to walk and I am supposed to go to my favorite event of the year on Wednesday evening. And it is an event that requires a lot of walking... Supposed to get it drained tomorrow.

Last night was cabbage with beef stew. At 8:10, the cabbage was not fully cooked. She meant to cook Sunday, but by the time she went shopping Sunday afternoon, she didn't feel like cooking.

She was also bothered because I was unable to hide my displeasure that she spent $35 on nice ribeye steaks to chop into stew meat.

I don't know that this is necessarily a rant, but maybe just an observation about getting older that I don't like:  My wife and daughter are going to Dragoncon this weekend, leaving on Thursday night.  No problem.  Before they go, I have a few small things that need to be done to repair Dark Helmet's helmet.  Again, no problem there, although I really should have started on that a few months ago, but that's a new observation about myself.  Previously at this stage I would have been thinking that I have all of today, all of tomorrow, and most of Thursday to go ahead and get this wrapped up, so no big deal.

For reasons that I attribute to how we perceive time differently as we age, instead of thinking about how much time I have to get this ready before they leave, all I can focus on is that a week from now they will have been back for about 12 hours or more and back at school and work.  And that isn't very much time from now.
