I have zero Xmas spirit this year. Usually I'm the one dragging everyone along to try to have some fun with the holidays but this year, I got nothing.

There is a guy in Ireland with my first name and last name, and apparently he has signed up for a Gmail account using first name last name with no dot in between them. My Gmail is first name dot last name.  Today I got an email for him from a college admissions office. About a year ago, I was getting verification notifications from Apple when he was trying to set up his new iPad.

IDK how this happens and it shouldn't be my problem to solve. Anyone got a customer service number for gmail?

I'm pretty sure Gmail ignores periods in emails. I've used that to separate out junkmail when signing up for dumb stuff on the internet.

Send any email to the guy informing him of the situation, what's likely causing it, and that he should think about changing it. Conclude with any misdirected e-mail,  even important ones, like college admissions, will not be forwarded.

He is not using that email address, someone else just thinks he is. firstlast and first.last are the same as far as Google is concerned. So is f.irstla.st, etc.

You are not receiving e-mail addressed to someone else, you are receiving e-mail intended for someone else but miss-addressed to you. He can not fix it.

True. To piggyback on my suggestion, he could use an alternative email. Of course, he needs to be informed of the issue first for that to happen. He'd probably like to get that reply from the university.

Yep it turns out Gmail's handling of dots in addresses is nonstandard...maybe the name's one character off somewhere?

Thinking about AngryCorvair's email issue some more, it could be worth trying to track this guy down on social media etc and notifying him, and/or notifying the senders of these emails to try reaching this guy another way, or he's just going to be missing a lot of important emails and could continue to give out the wrong email address a while longer.

And people have been trying to reach him about his cars warranty about to expire

That is a fuel sending unit grommet on a ski-doo. Yes, a grommet, below fuel level. Idiots.

Half an hour of disassembly later, here's what the rotten one looks like.

So, yeah. Fuel rots the grommet, which is in the bottom of the tank. Rotten grommet falls out and dumps 10 gallons of fuel on my customers floor.

Bloody stupid design.

Didn't Holley teach everyone "no gaskets below fuel level" 70 years ago?

I felt for a little bit, that maybe I was leaping into wanting medications to treat my ADHD too fast. Maybe I was looking for an easy fix to a complex issue, not taking the time to really push myself to learn new habits as better coping mechanisms.

And then I have a day like today where, while I still worked on a did a lot of maintenance on things at home, I still checked my discord every 15 minutes, searched things online every 30, then would break to go do something else. Even though I've gotten things done, I don't feel like I have because I keep moving to another thing. I genuinely feel like I should go on a low dose of long-acting ritalin because it genuinely might completely change my life and focus for the better.

I hope this is closer to the truth.  Pain is an excellent teacher.

I threatened under my breath, then accidentally did it.  Felt bad.

The HVAC company that reworked our setup fitted two condensate pumps on advice of our plumber because the current condensate drain setup would overflow when both units plus the steam humidifier were running at full tilt and the water filter system was running through its backwash cycle at the same time.

Both condensate pumps now drain to the outside instead of into the septic system, and the berkeleying mechanical room is home to a growing puddle of water while the pumps are running and both humidifier and heat pumps/oil heat are running.

I leave it to the collective imagination what the problem might be, other than it's below freezing outside.

I guess I'll have to have a polite but firm conversation with them tomorrow morning that they better come out to fix this berkeley up, stat, and that I'm not paying for any BS callout fees. That whole system overhaul was close to brand-new Hyundai money, but I guess I have the unreasonable expectation that this E36 M3 should maybe just work for 12 months?

In the meantime, if anyone needs me I'm in the mechanical room mopping the berkeleying floor.

I don't need 4 emails a day about my berkeleying credit score. I especially don't need extra push notifications every time a fly farts.

I'm playing your stupid credit score game, that should be enough.

Between MasterCard, discover, and credit karma my inbox is overflowing with pointless bullE36 M3. But then when I block the advertising department, I don't get my berkeleying bills either, you know, the one important email they send a month.

There's a proliferation of ads on TV these days for whole body deodorant, that works on your pits and also your privates.  The one I just saw claimed their product kills odors for up to 72 hours.  Here's an idea, don't wait three days to take a shower. frown

wait wait wait.. You're telling me that I could shower just once every three days?  At 15 minutes a day, that's like 60 hours a year I'd get back!

Or am I taking the wrong message from that?

They're terrible. The local franchise is staffed (at least based on every shred of evidence I can find) totally and entirely by shiny happy people that can't drive and don't care about their job.

And their tracking (maybe their whole logistics algorithm) needs a lot to compare to UPS. If UPS says you're getting a package on a given day, you're overwhelmingly likely to get it on that day. If FedEx says you're getting it on a given day, dollars to donuts it'll be the day after that.

Verizon has been a pain in my ass this week.  First travel pass didnt work when I was in Costa Rica, then my account got locked.  Then when I returned to US, SMS didn't work.

Guess what you need to get any form of support?  Access to your account.  Guess what you need to reset your password/unlock your account?  SMS.

Between that and work IT issues, the first 2.5 hours of my day was spent on the phone with various forms of technical support.

It's funny how regional this can be.  Here, FedEx is the best, followed by UPS with USPS in a very distant 3rd.

I'm still furious with UPS for closing all of their customer centers leaving only 3rd parties (Staples, UPS Store, etc) as drop off locations.

The suckage at FedEx is strong. That is all.

On a different note: I've been getting these advertisements for t-shirts with politically divisive content - claiming to be from Native-American sources. Turns out the content originates from Southeast Asia. Well f-ck you guys! We Americans can be plenty divisive on our own without any outside help!
