Wow.

Needed to plug an un-needed nipple on a coolant tube. To be doubly sure my plug wouldn't fail and leave me stranded I decided to first plug it with JB weld, then clamp a cap over the top. I put the JB weld in, then installed the cap. 5 minutes later I realized that the act of pushing the cap on probably pushed the JB weld through the nipple and into the tube... DUMB! Now off comes the tube that is a PITA to fit....

Subway??? People still go there after the Jared Fogle fiasco?
In reply to Sine_Qua_Non:
What difference does it make? He hasn't even been prominent that I've seen in the past ten years. And even so, when the story broke about his private life, Subway did the PR-sensible thing and distanced themselves from him practically immediately.
So what is the problem? They still sell a wide variety of tasty yet healthy food options at very competitive prices, with a remarkably quick turnaround. And they carry Red Hot again, just perfect for a ham and egg breakfast sandwich. The sriracha just wasn't cutting it.
Jared's jizz stained hands didn't make my sandwich. Juan did. And he did a good job at it, too. I told him so.
This is when you want to go to Subway - sales are down so they are trying harder to make it better and are they still struggling with the 11" long foot longs they were selling a year ago?
Compared with recent posts, my concerns are minor...and this is all my fault due to sporadic GRM Forum postings and the forgetfulness that comes with age, but:

Who is this 'Amy' person; when we're not talking about the Trans-Am driver?
Apparently we were out of power for about 10 hours while we were on vacation. All the food in the fridge and freezer has gone bad. There's $300 in groceries. berkeley.
Been waiting over 9 months w/ anticipation for the boiler job at a local university to come back around, I really need to get outta my current workplace before I lose my mind. I know the boiler chemical supplier for the university steam plant and all sounded good at first. Now he says I probably won't like it there. Lower state wages, they're not by the book, bad management and I'd be overqualified. It is a substantial pay cut but at 40 hrs/ week is more to my liking than the 2-4 weeks on before a day off I been working. Dang, kinda busted my bubble. Resume sent anyway.
On the bright side another chemical guy suggested a Powerhouse job at their brewery account. Clean facility, great place to work, good wages, good management and I'd fit right in. He knows my work for over the last 20 years and would go to bat for me.
Hope something comes along soon as I couldn't stand another boiler season at this place I'm at, they just throw bandaids at everything. Fingers crossed.
Another happy day. Went to buy gas yesterday and found that some good folks in a Maryland supermarket had drained my checking account. Two $310 charges that were supposed pay my insurance. Of course it's the card that all our automatic payments are linked to so I'm going to be getting a number of cancelations in the coming weeks to fix too. This will be fun.
my feets hurt.
12 hour day from 4pm till 2am Saturday
10am till 4am yesterday
noon till 8 today
tomorrow is my last day before 2 weeks of much needed vacation.. if I have any feet left, I spent most of the last 36 working hours on them with almost no time off them to even sleep

When we were doing our registry about... 4 months ago? You got mad at me because I didn't care. It wasn't that I didn't care, it was just that I have lived with my parents for 18 years and noticed that certain things were never used. To that matter, I actually took one of their gifts with me to college. They were still in the original packaging, those mr and mrs pillow cases. Just one example, but not all that unusual. So now, we are moving into our apartment. And we are moving in the wedding gifts, along with the stuff that we had before this. I'm ok with upgrading. I'm ok with adding new stuff too. But dear god, we didn't need half of this E36 M3!! And now we don't have room for it!
Anybody want a set of decorative jello molds?:/

this is the principle reason that I'll never have a debit card … CC or cash
SWMBO is still in California. She is still doing "the watch" for her sister.
Sister is completely terminal and taking no fluids or nutrition. A pain med drip only and unconscious since Wednesday. It's absolutely brutal on the family.

If it was off for only 10 hours, the stuff in the freezer should be OK.

I am thoroughly amazed at some of the E36 M3 you get for wedding presents. We got four of the cut glass salad bowls. Three of them got sold at a yard sale, and I have no idea where #4 is. It probably got sent to the church yard sale many years ago. At least nowadays you have registries at every store and can return stuff a lot easier. I am a firm believer is giving gift certificates or cash.

Apparently Samsung doesn't make a fridge worth a berkeley. All the ice had melted, and when the power came back everything got covered in 1/2 inch of fuzzy frost. Don't trust the food anymore.

Since no one seems to have answered this, here goes:
1) 'Canoe' is used as a keyword to flag unwanted commercial posts (ie, SPAM), which is left over from previous versions of the board software. It's not really required any more, but it has entered the lexicon here.
2) 'Amy' is a reference to a now-deleted (but fairly recent) thread in which a person here related the details of his erotic adventures with a woman named Amy, her friend, and (later) Amy's daughter (also named Amy). So an 'Amy' has become the term for an attractive woman (or other object of lust) that will probably lead to trouble and/or regrets if pursued too actively.

Or at least including a receipt.
But the registry's don't stop SWMBO from registering for guacamole bowls! Anyone want little ceramic bowls shaped like an avacado? Cause I sure as hell don't
In reply to spitfirebill:
My wife and I were married in 2002. When we registered one of her aunts joked about getting crap they hadn't even opened yet. After our wedding we opened our gift from them, a big glass bowl in a dusty box with a card to her aunt and uncle dated 1978. My wife was angry and I about fell over laughing. I told her about the conversation her aunt and I had and she got a good laugh out of it. We tucked our card into the box with theirs and are looking forward to giving it to their daughter next year at her wedding.

I was quite glad that both SWMBO and I a) had been married before and seen how much stuff was useless and b) had been living in our own places for a fair amount of time such that there was little we really NEEDED and c) we pretty much completely agreed on what little was put on our registry. We really didn't have a 'nice' set of dishes & flatware so that was the bulk of it as well as a few unique and interesting things we found (the cheese platter with magnets that holds the knife & fork rarely gets used as a cheese platter but DOES make a great island centerpiece) and a few nicer knives than either of us had.
FINALLY found and bought a winter beater over the weekend. The bad news is that while it ran it had a rod knock that sounded like someone using a jackhammer- but that was a large part of why I got it so cheap. I had HOPED that I could potentially have put a Band-Aid fix on it in the form of replacing the rod bearing that was the problem in-situ so I could drive it to retrieve a replacement engine- but no, the fact that it's a 4x4 means that the front drive hardware prevents dropping the oil pan.
Been trying to save up to go to the Challenge, and now my sammy's clutch throwout bearing is making the death rattles and the passenger door latch is malfunctioning too badly for use. Both problems reared their heads this morning. Should've seen the throwout bearing problem coming, I know the clutch freeplay was a bit short due to clutch pedal mechanism problems...was hoping it would hold out until I could get my 'rolla driving again.

"they just throw bandaids at everything"
That sentence in the context of boiler problems makes me very nervous. I am very aware of how much energy steam has, and it NEEDS to be treated with respect or people will get hurt/die.
Please find a new place to work! Ill-maintained boilers scare the E36 M3 out of me.
