Broken rocker stud has turned into a cracked head on a neighboring cylinder, on an engine I just finished building a few months ago. There's an expensive, unexpected project I didn't really want to work on. If I'd have just bought the damn roller rockers to start with, I wouldn't have this problem...

Had an awesome effing birthday yesterday.

Not only did I work 10+ hours yesterday, I get out of work to sit in traffic because some dumb driver ran out of talent and took out another 3 cars on the highway. Rubber neckers converge!

Get home to my 9 month pregnant Wife trying to cook me dinner, but is having a rough go at it because of the pregnancy. I try to help, but I end up getting in the way more than helping. To top the night off, my crazy ex-girlfriend decides to text me, trying small talk about something. Wife sees it, gets angry that she is doing that. So, angry Wife, long day, no sleep, early morning.

Best birthday yet...

For berkeleys sake! Not only did the foresters wheel bearing E36 M3 its self in rapid fashion, but it's taken the hub flange out to....

Now I get to go wrecker crawling tomorrow to try and find a hub assembly so I can raid the flange from it. Normally I'd be stoked about a wrecker crawl, but I haven't got any spare money, which means that of course I'll find all those awesome holy grail unicorn fart parts that I want... berkeley!

Finally was able to meet up and look at the '07 Jeep Patriot I'd been interested in, and despite not being able to get the seller to come down on the price still bought it as the asking price was pretty low and none of the potential issues worried me that much.

It did however need gas, so I stopped and put a few gallons in on the way back in to work. When I went to start it up to head back out, nothing happened when I turned the key. I could tell nothing was really getting power, so I popped the hood and poked around and found that both the positive and negative battery connections were a bit loose and not making solid connections. Tightened things up the pliers on my pocket knife enough to get it going again and headed off to work- but I can't say I have the greatest amount of confidence now in this car going forward with that kind of a start to things...

I know you mentioned money, but SKF often sells a bearing kit that includes a new hub, I think because the hardest part of a bearing job is getting the race off the hub. Not sure if Subaru is included in this program.

In my early 20's we had a costume contest at a corporate setting. I dressed like a biker and rode an old 70's bicycle into the office. 30% of the folks dressed up and half of those changed back (it was the 1980's) to work clothes. All the top movers/shakers didn't dress at all.

I learned that day to pass on unrelated work crap.

They likely pulled the battery or swapped it around for charging, etc.

I'd only be slightly worried about it and I would mention it to the seller to see what their reaction is.

At somepoint last night someone decided to rob everything out of the console of my truck. Not much of value thankfully but still pisses me off. I live in a good neighborhood in a small town for a reason. Hope they enjoy the cheap pocket knife and flashlight.

I live in an upper-middle class suburb that thinks it is an upper class suburb. We have a ton of that going on. Remember to lock your doors; every single theft the car owner forgot to lock the doors.

The engineer that designed the cooling system in my Mom's 2004 Rendezvous needs to have the feeling of a 1000 missed sneezes tickle his nose.

The other day it started leaking from the front of the engine, it is just over 100,000 miles (100,030 to be exact) and overdue for some cooling system maintenance. Replacing the waterpump was fairly easy, doing the hoses a little harder, but the kick in the teeth was the t-stat. It is located UNDER the throttlebody and behind the exhaust crossover. Basically, I had to pull the TB to get the thermostat out.

Now I have a new leak, I somehow disturbed the heater connection on the waterpump that is a metal on metal connection with a single clamp style bolt to hold it into place. I Sealed it up, so hopefully tomorrow all will back to normal.

And who decided it would be a good idea to angle the radiator cap back towards the car AND put it under one of the fender to radiator braces? It is nearly impossible to remove that thing. "do not remove when hot" my ass- it's nearly impossible to remove anytime

Aw E36 M3, guess my time has finally come. My knees are starting to bug me for the first time at the ripe old age of 42. It came out of nowhere this evening during the stop and go rush hour traffic in my manual BMW. Using icy hot. Hope it helps otherwise my fleet of manual cars are going to go bye bye soon.

Stretches and exercises are your friend, same w/ losing weight. Tight hamstrings alone can aggravate knee pain. Good shoes or insoles that cushion shock on feet, ankles, knees and hips. BTDT but didn't hit me till after 52. Still have my S197 5-speed.

6 weeks ago when my truck was broken into they smashed the back glass to gain entry. Ripped out the stereo and all the change from the ash tray. For what they got I feel leaving the doors unlocked and a $20 on the console clipped to a note saying "here, have one on me please don't destroy my E36 M3." would have been the better choice.

My rant: for those who aren't following my VW thread on the other page. The fuel system is giving me troubles to last night I pulled the tank pump to inspect it. Huge mistake, apparently German engineers felt the need to run hoses back and forth all through the tank, the pump is offset and has to be partly disassembled in order to remove it and the last thing I'd done before working on the stupid car (because I'm an idiot) was FILL the tank to the very brim. So I was working hunched over, wrist deep in gasoline, in near darkness, trying to decipher what the assembly of the pump is so I could reverse that. It all made allroad very crabby.

it's just weird. The waterpump has to be the second most easy pump I have ever done (my 318ti was the easiest) but the thermostat has to be hardest I have ever had to do.

As for today's rant. My feet hurt. 9 hours at work without a break, running all over the building will do that. I even wear really nice hiking boots, and the concrete and marble floors just destroy my feet

I want to know who the hell started the movement for high rental home prices across the country. Zillow seems to be the offender but WHO is the shiny happy person that started it? Prices used to be a lot less than $1 per square and now it is exactly $1 per square foot or higher with quite a few being ridiculous for my area. Now, I am talking about "normal" homes below $200k and not the stupid crazy high crap like on Million Dollar Listing Los Angeles on Bravo TV. I was looking to buy a 2nd house and rent it out as a second income. Long story short, I lost the deal on the house by an all cash offer and the guy is now renting it out for double for what it should go for.

Learn to shift without the clutch. Makes life loads easier.

I have found that seat angle makes a huge difference. I haven't got much issue with, say, the RX-7 or a certain Miata, since I sit all up in the pedal box, but I can't drive VWs or BMWs on anything except good days because they require a full knee extension and toe point since German people apparently have hooves, or size 5 feet max.

It also helps that the RX-7 is very easy to shift clutchless up or down, and the certain Miata has a feather-light clutch.

Downside is it is mostly my left knee giving trouble. Upside is at least I like automatics.

I was working on making my ex-Quantum mobile today. Made a rollaround cart with a discarded pallet and some 10" non-swivel casters, did some significant garage cleanup looking for enough bolts to attach the casters to the pallet (dangit, I bought a gross of 3/8" bolts and washers and nuts, where they at???) and got down to putting the quickie car-dolly under the car. Had a couple scary moments where it almost fell on me as I tried to find the best way to lift it off of four jackstands onto the cart, and find the car's CG so it could be rolled around like a big ugly wheelbarrow.

Thought, hey. let's remove the fuel tank too. That's tail weight we don't need, and it's probably got fuel in it that the furnace at work would love. Okay, break the tank straps with channel-locks, remove the ratchet strap holding the tank up because the straps were so weak that they could be broken off with channel-locks, remove the hose clamps on the filler neck, drop it out! Four hoses holding it to the car. Razor blade, cut one, cut two, cut three, cut four...

SLICE Hey, that was my thumb!

My oh my, thumbs bleed a lot. And have a lot of nerve endings. I don't think I've been in this much pain since the testicle incident. My interest in removing fuel tanks was suddenly replaced by my interest in finding some electrical tape so I could bind the deep gash in my thumb, which is apparently so deep that it cut some nerves because my thumbtip downstream of the cut is completely numb.
