I get to work. Three people from my department have be in tomorrow to run the Comedy Club. One carp, one elect, and on audio. We do entertainment everyday at the Borgata but one, all the venues are closed Christmas Day

I think I would honestly rather work.

I'm thinking that was intended to be a reply to mad_machine. Or you're advocating that I chop my family up into small concealable bits.

In the last two weeks, I've chipped and cracked my Eggtastic (annoying, but still usable and will pretty certainly get a new one from MIL for Christmas) and today fumbled and shattered my favorite mug at work- a very cool one SWMBO got for me a few years ago. Thankfully I know where she got it from and have ordered a replacement (to be delivered to work...).

Well I definitely have a least favorite person in the office now. A human Jack Russell Terrier who can't settle on a plan for anything and is always shocked, SHOCKED to see how different the result of the last plan he settled on with everybody else is vs. whatever new idea spontaneously formed in his head at that moment. I'm now significantly redeveloping the same new website layout for the second time because of this guy.

Sadly that's probably still the best solution to my issue as well, because I believe it;s my family that really ruins holidays. My mother turns into a raging lunatic, who gets mad because no one helps and then gets even angrier if you do help. My father is a pretty nice, easygoing guy but becomes downright miserable because of her. The only other people who come are my two sisters and their respective partners and children, and I already see them on a near-weekly basis to begin with. My grandparents are dead on both sides. My father's siblings don't live locally and don't get along with my mother. My mother doesn't get along with pretty much any of her siblings. So it's not like it's a chance to see relatives I don't see often, despite all the chaos. Also, my two sisters don't get along and haven't so in the 30+ years they have existed, so its pretty passive-aggressive. My parent's house sucks for hosting because it's too small, so everyone jams together and you can't get away from people or attempt to hold a conversation, but we can't hold it at either of the sisters' house because then the other wouldn't show up. There's no alcohol present, because my mother is the second coming of Carrie Nation. And honestly, I don't give a berkeley about turkey dinner. I'd rather have pizza. Just give me a pecan pie to go with it.

No kidding. No alcohol? Not even a basement to escape to? What about an outdoor space? Bring over a cooler and a portable fire pit? I dunno, that sounds bad.

When my manager isn't in the office and the acting manager hasn't let everyone go home yet. Last year I got to leave at 1 PM.

No alcohol. Basement is unfurnished and just used for storage, so it would look pretty weird if I vanished there. Outdoors is dicey this time of year in CNY (It's 30 and snowing/raining today). If the weather was nice and roads weren't white with salt then I would just light off the Miata and be gone for a day. Really need a SWMBO so I can say we decided to stay in and do our own thing or we're going to her family. Tried to put together a Friendsgiving but they were all going to their families

Have a garage there you can use? Have your car mysteriously develop a misfire 10 minutes from your parents. You stopped on the way at an advancpepzone and bought spark plugs and an ignition coil. Spend then next 3 hours "replacing" the ignition coil and spark plugs. Or pretending to. Don't even need to do anything but make it look like you are.

In reply to mtn :

Their garage is currently full of a Subaru Legacy with the top of the engine ripped apart and waiting on parts. I'll just suck it up and try not to murder people and give my father someone other than my sister's husband to talk to and to try and act like a buffer between the various warring parties.

Are you sure I'm not your father?  That seems horribly familiar, but I don't remember a son...  I got rid of the wife, too.  In a legal manner...

Brownies man. A nice tray of brownies should lock everyone in their chairs and make them peaceful for the day. And probably hungry and sleepy too.

Left work at one for a doctors appointment and as i turned the tight right into the parking lot i get a loud pop. Last time i had a noise like that it was a broken set of spider gears. Got "lucky" it was just brake hardware disintegrating. So after getting 16 stitches in my back i spent 6 hours replacing drums, shoes, hardware, wheel cylinders, hardlines and hoses. While bleeding down my back.

I’ve worked most of the last 20 thanksgivings which I haven’t minded.  My in laws generally don’t do much of anything and my family goes to my aunts house where everyone likes to argue and she stopped making turkey a while ago because on of her kids became allergic.  Prior to that my dad would take me to a shelter his church supports in the morning to get a bunch of turkeys and fixings prepared for homeless people. By the time we got to my aunts we’d be to tired to care about the bickering.

In reply to NickD : Aww man that sounds pretty bad.  If you were in KY you'd definitely be welcome to our giant friends-n-family-giving.  A family friend hosts about 25-30 of us, plenty of good wine is consumed, my only responsibility is to provide deviled eggs (awesome ones!).  The house is huge and gorgeous with a nifty outdoor fire pit.

my rant: I woke up at 5 am today and have to go do a 5K "race" this morning.  The Thorobred Classic at the historic Keeneland track.

Well, the Thanksgiving situation continues to evolve. My oldest sister pinched a nerve in her shoulder the other day, so she and her husbands and their two daughters (13 and 10) are only showing up for dessert. While that reduces the congestion, of the two sisters, I get along with that one and her husband much better and they usually contribute less noise and chaos.
