I want to like my job, but putting in more hours than what I am getting paid for just to keep up with the workload is getting old real quick. Trying to get everything done as fast as possible (since almost everything on my desk is high priority and needs to be done yesterday) has led to a few honest mistakes, so now my boss is micromanaging the berkeley out of me which is not only not helping, it is making me really hate my berkeleying life right now.

Im a big believer in working to live rather than living to work, any way you can talk to your boss?

I want to like the new Blazer.  It just feels like a current Chevrolet with different name on it.

It pretty much is. It's the size of the Equinox, with the turbo 4-cylinders from the new generation Equinox and the V6 from the old Equinox. I really don't get why they didn't just eliminate the Equinox and replace it with the Blazer, because the Equinox nameplate doesn't have the best reputation anymore. Because in addition to the Equinox and Blazer, they already have the GMC Terrain, the Buick Envision, the Cadillac XT4 and the Cadillac XT5. How many frigging 2-row crossovers does one company need before they start stealing sales from each other?

No motivation today other than if I don't do something bad stuff may happen; not if I do something good, stuff will happen.  Need to change my perspective but it ain't workin' today.

It was announced two weeks ago that another round of layoffs are coming even after being told last October that the first round would be it.  Morale sucks and people are stressed out. It is also review time and although my boss likes what I'm doing, my goals shifted from when they were written so I haven't exactly matched them. HR looks at reviews for deciding who gets let go. He's made it clear that other factors are at play and that I excel in most areas, just not those goals and I have been proactive in trying to get back on course or shift goals to match what I  have done. He did not know about layoffs from our group last time until 1 hr before he had to walk an engineer to the conference room. Hope he can fight for us this time and HR  doesn't just look at review ratings.  I have no faith in upper management at this time.

I can tell there is a conversation because I can hear the person on the other end of the speakerphone clearly from across the cubicle farm. I can't hear the person on this end of the phone.

The 40 people in this office don't need or want to hear you booking a flight for your daughter. This is what the handset is for.

My wife has been living this exact scenario for the past year, as her large corporation merges with another large corporation and then gets split into 3 different corporations.  Plus, as soon as she gets anywhere with one of her managers and makes them understand just how much she does for her location, that person gets fired or transferred elsewhere.  I feel your pain.

The person who invented speakerphones is the berking devil.  They should never be used except for conference calls, and when they are, you should all be in a berking conference room with the berking door closed.

Sorry to hear things are sucking, MoJo. I second trying to talk to your boss about how to improve things, or just raising the concern that you're feeling a bit overworked, you're aware of the mistakes and you'd like to work with them to keep things on track that doesn't drive you nuts.

Last week I had a major allergy attack due to the feral cat that took up residence in the shop. My eyes swelled shut and the boss had to run out to get me some Benadryl so I could function.

Today he brings his house cat to live at the shop because it can't get along with his dog. So now I have two cats berkeleying my life up. There is not a place in the shop I can go to get a fresh breath of air, I can berkeleying taste them. I've had a headache every day since last week from the cats. I can't even go into the break room any more due to it. And he brings another one FML.

I think he's trying to run me off.

I parked the Avalanche in front of the garage a few weeks ago and put 3 cars in front of it. The clubman lacks the ground clearance to traverse the 16" of snow on the ground.  The city plowed our street yesterday making a 2 foot barrier at the end of the driveway and my only snow shovel has a broken handle.

I have a lot of digging to do to be able to shuffle the cars around and get the Chevy out.

Wish me luck. I hope to make it to work before noon. It is 7:30 now.

I am reminded of something my Iowa transplant friend says when people ask him why he moved to the Willamette valley.  "Because you don't have to shovel rain"

Don't settle for information from sources that make you feel good.  I chuckle when I read articles and forum posts about our world today and commenters are so dug into their positions they won't entertain an outside thought.  Ask them "why" and the lazy will curse your name to the stratosphere.  Less lazy ones will post an article or chart...from sources that make them feel good.  More engaged people will explain their point in hopes of educating and converting you to their side of an issue.  The most engaged, and polite, will say, "I've got an idea but I'd like to hear yours."  That's where learning begins.

The internet was made for the exchange of ideas.  Not the steadfast, unyielding squabbling of the immature.

We'll ask here, "how do you set the timing on a 305 with a Chinese turbo kit?" and have 10 pages of great discussion but someone will mention a leader or belief system, or changing views in science and the thread gets locked.  Be consistent.  If you're curious and helpful with mechanical things, be curious and helpful with more nebulous ideas.

Just ranting before bed.  Good night.

Do NOT ask for home wiring help. Electricity could make you DIE and should be left to people who already know how to do it. cheeky

I'd straight up ask him. "Are you trying to drive me away? You know I'm extremely allergic to cats after the first incident."

Yes.  Yes you do.  He's creating a hostile work environment and you have rights as an employee.  He could get sued and potentially lose his business.

Talk to him before it gets to that point.

I haven't heard a peep from my surveying job. For a month. The "we'll use you at  least a day or two a week" didn't happen. I'm getting $138/week from unemployment. I'm sinking faster than a penny in a wave pool.

So I look for and get a new job with similar pay and benefits. I start tomorrow on Thursday.

Guess who just texted me about work on Friday?

In the instances where I have brought issues up (with what I felt were reasonable changes to address them) I have either been brushed off or told that I was being defensive, even though I am not. I take great care to not bring emotion into a discussion. I state the case and provide alternate methods to improve the situation. I am beyond frustrated, but I go to great lengths to not show it.

Thanks for listening and for the advice, I do appreciate it!

Sounds like youve been reasonable and were met with nothing. Its time to be unreasonable IMO.

My friend has a good saying that ill paraphrase here: The most valuable asset you have is time, you never know when the end will come. It could be in a week, a year or 50 years. What if you struggled thru a E36 M3ty situation for almost all the life you have left when you could have been happy instead? Work towards being happy above all things.

Im not a great motivational speaker for keeping jobs, ive worked for a lot of companies over the years before i started my own. "I was looking for a job when i found this one" is something ive said.

seems to be the week for complaining about work.

yesterday they rolled out a new rule without telling anybody. Now, if a vendor at a convention gives you something, even to the point of putting it in your hands, it is considered stealing and grounds for immediate dismissal. The worst part is: they are actively watching, being in a casino the only places there are not cameras are areas where people get changed.

On that same note: I am not really a people person. I tend towards being an introvert. Not the shut in type, but I need time alone to R&R after dealing with a lot of people. I had three days of it. Late sunday, back in early monday for a 14 hour day, and back in tuesday early. I know I was quite snappish by the time I left work yesterday, I was way over my quota for peopling.
