hey this girl was found alive after 3 days in the woods , authorities have stated she survived by killing a hog and crawling up inside its belly , She also drank water from palmetto fronds . She used a homemade flare to signal rescuers of her location . After all the dead kids found here in central florida this is a good news story . http://www.wftv.com/news/23134610/detail.html

If you read the story, everyone is thanking god. It sounds to me like they aught to be thanking Empire Strikes Back.

Great to hear a happy ending to one of these stories.

Kinda hoping TDC drops Bear Grylls and hires this little girl for her own survival show.

(j/k) If this doesn't make it in the "Say What" section, I'm cancelling my subscription. (j/k.)

Skip over the wild hog part. This kid went for a nature walk in the wrong area. Parts of Florida are some really nasty swamps, and without real outdoor skills, you can quickly get in trouble. This kid was lucky. Also consider that she has a mild form of autism. I don't know if that affected her on her hike, but she is a bit disabled. It does sound like her family are some real bible thumpers. "Praying in tongues"?

It's truly great to hear she made it out okay. When I heard this:

WFTV learned about Nadia's fascination with a popular "American Girls" doll. The fictional character, Lanie (more about Lanie character), is an outdoorsy nature-lover who explores her own backyard. WFTV learned Nadia had a book about Lanie and two cameras with her in the backpack she was wearing Friday.

....this morning, I rolled my eyes thinking "Great. Let's get lined up for the book burning. And God forbid kids actually go play in the woods rather than sitting in front of the freaking TV/computer all day."

I am very happy for the girl and her family. I wouldn't want to wander around in the swamps around here. There's any number of creatures that would love to dine on you—and some of them aren't even human.

Meh. Messing around in the woods/water down there is the only thing I miss. I sure as E36 M3 don't miss the people. Maybe when you grow up with it, it's different. We'd play "WAR" deep, deep, deep in the woods, swim/wade/dive off bridges into canals. You learn to keep your eyes & ears peeled, don't play near bigass culverts where gators hang out, if a school of mullet are freaking out like something big is chasing them, it probably is, what a baby gator signalling distress to mamma sounds like etc., etc., etc. We had alligators freaking everywhere. If you didn't berkeley with them, they wouldn't berkeley with you, and most of the time, if you did berkeley with them, they still wouldn't berkeley with you; they'd just take off.

The only thing me or my buddies ever got hurt by were our own dumb asses. Mostly berkeleying around with snakes, building "booby traps" in the woods (that was really dumb,) etc. I'm glad that my parents let me run around all over the place as long as I was back by supper. I knew kids whose parents didn't, and they were all weird.

Yea, now that I think about it, I didn't really worry about mountain lions, fisher cats and the like when I lived in Vermont, despite the fact that we saw these critters in my driveway.

Something about the snakes and gators gives me the heebie jeebies though.

I'm glad the little girl is okay, divine intervention or not.

You guys are creeping me out - I don't recall anything threatening to eat me while playing outside as a child.

The biggest threat to my life at that age was the ready availability of baby carriage wheels, scrap lumber and rusty nails - combined with 4th grade engineering skills and hilly terrain.

Sorry to be a downer but my internal B.S. meter is going off big time.
