I just can't let this go. Do you really think that's the case in New Brunswick?

The coldest week of my entire life was just below freezing, in Edinburgh, Scotland. I presume, based upon conversations with a friend from NB, that St.John is close to the same. I could very well be wrong.

Saskatchewan lie: "But its a dry cold."

So, the googles sent us almost all the way through the States. North Dakota, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania, New York so far. Sleeping in a dive hotel in Syracuse tonight. Massacheussets, Rhode Island, Maine, New Brunswick tomorrow I hope. Hope the googles get me past Boston ok. Chicago traffic sucked at 7:30 on Sunday evening, I cant imagine working there.

Jeez this is a wide continent.

Yeah best time I found was to start passing through around 2:30-3am on a weekday. You made it unscathed so cool.

Hope to hear more about your journey.

Why not cross from NY to Ontario or Quebec instead of going into Massachusetts, Rhode Island (??), new Hampshire, Maine? Just doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

Did that route up through NY, MA, CT, ME and into New Brunswick. St. John is a cool town all perched up on the hill next to the ocean.

Never saw Rhode Island- that was a brain fart. All things considered, I think the nice Garmin lady made the right choices. Three solid days on the interstates, followed by one full day on back roads and the Maine turnpike, ending on New Brunswick #1. 4440 kn, roughly 48 hours not counting hotel time, with a female in the car. According to every method I consulted, the shortest route would have been a couple hundred kliks shorter, but this was the fastest timewise. It also gave us the peace of mind of not getting broken down in the middle of Ontario, at the end of a $500 tow bill.

It also has the psychological benefit of not spending a full day and a half in Ontario- instead, we went from Wisconsin to Illinois to Indiana to Pennsylvania to New York in the same distance.

Some of you may have seen my gear ratio rants in the past, and I would like to reiterate my disapproval of short overdrive ratios combined with short final drive ratios. In this particular case,it wasn't the end of the world, because I didn't really want to push the 12 inch tires on the trailer a whole lot over 110kph, but a 02 Neon R/T didn't even flinch at hauling a thousand pounds of stuff across the world, and could have easily done it with a .7 o/d ratio instead of the .8. It averaged pretty close to 30 mpg, but if it could have run under 3200 rpm, it likely would have done better.

One more thought- Why do people I know always move into the third story of buildings with no elevator?

Thread back from the dead. Guess where I'm flying on Tuesday to help with a move back home? Hopefully the weather will cooperate- the utility trailer we took down to New Brunswick is in a snowbank...and it snowed well over 8 feet there this winter. I'm presuming the weather should be ok-ish down east, and with any luck, there won't be a spring storm in North Dakota.

Fun, fun, fun.

Turns out Saskatchewan in January was much, much nicer than New Brunswick this year.

Have a safe trip. I'm sure you'll be glad to get her back into visiting range.

I just helped my brother move into a house that's 12' off the ground. That better than any stairmaster you can buy.
