Hello All,
I have been reading the forum for a while and keeping up with some of the builds that have caught my attention. I recently ventured out of the "Builds and Project Cars" section and found some useful advice in this section. I've come to ask for advice on breaking into the automotive industry specifically in the San Diego area. I'll be moving from Boston by September with the girlfriend so she can pursue a PHD there. My background is in mechanical engineering with manufacturing, industrial diagnostics, and design experience. I have applied to a few companies such as Bilstein, and 4WP and I'm looking for any suggestions for good companies to look into or the best people in the area to get connected with. Any advice is appreciated. While I'm at it here's a picture of my pinto.
Thanks

That Pinto is gorgeous! Sorry, can’t help with your move, unfortunately.
Magnaflow has some type of activity in North County. I see their guys eating lunch in some of the same places I go to.
San Diego is a great town. Hopefully your pinto is pre 75.
All my job reco’s are in the aerospace ghetto of Pasadena. That’s a bit of a hike. You’ll be fine. California can’t find enough qualified workers.

Good point on the 1975 requiring smog testing. But wiki tells me that 1974 Pinto got bigger bumpers and what is here in blue looks to be '71-'73 bumpers.
I’ve always been a Vega man, myself.
My son got his PhD at UC Irvine - they had grad student housing that was at a reasonable cost for either singles or couples
Can you get this?
Thanks for the responses all, the Pinto is a '73. Does that mean I shouldn't have a problem with it? It has been swapped. As for the aerospace recommendations I'd be happy to hear them. I do have some experience in that space and have been including those jobs in my search as well as interesting looking tech and biotech companies. Thanks for the magnaflow and Collins recommendations I'll check in with them. We are on a waitlist for student housing which I have been told takes ~2 years to get off of. We are looking in Pacific Beach and Claremont for housing right now.
Any further suggestions about employers or good people to talk to about getting connected in the area? Also Can someone confirm I'll be able to register my pinto without a problem (5.0 swap). Another topic we are working on is how to view houses/apartments (for rent) from across the country. to those who have pulled off large moves before do you have tips on working with landlords?
Thanks for the comments thus far.
No smog , no inspection for the 73 Pinto .
