Healing vibes for him and best wishes for his folks. There is no feeling like the one before you hand your child over to be hurt, even for all of the right reasons. You're in my thoughts.

A friend's son had the leaf spring inserted a decade or so ago, taken out a few years later. His party trick used to be eating cereal with milk from the hollow in his chest.
He's now 30 and an airline pilot.
I made the mistake of watching a video of the procedure. Don't do that until your son has complained about a sore chest for a day or two, then it will reinforce your sympathy...
I know this doesn't help much, but I know 2 people that have had that surgery, both at 15 years old, with 0 complications or issues. It'll be all good. They know what they're doing.

Best wishes to your whole family. I'm sure those surgeons are the best of the best.

We’ll be keeping your son and your family in our thoughts Nick. Hoping for the best possible outcome.
I participated in several of these in my past life. The surgeons who do these cases are top of the game. Even so, I'd still be nervous if my own kid were the patient.
Edit - do as streetwise says and hold off on YouTube searches for now
Best wishes for a quick recovery!!!
Good luck, Nick. There are no words to ease your apprehension, it's totally normal and it's going to happen. Just as there are people professional enough to rebuild auto trans on a daily basis, the docs are pros and this is part of their job. Way more nerve wracking for you than them.

He'll turn 15 on the 24th.
Docs said that like braces there is a sweet spot in age to get the best results. Wait too long and it's just not as effective. He's right in that sweet spot.
Best of luck and medical science to him, Nick. Please keep us posted when you can.
I don't know how to say anything well that hasn't already been said. Hope & prayers that everything goes well with perfect outcome and that you can deal well with whatever anxiety/worries you have.
Will be thinking of you and your son tomorrow. And by the way being worried proves your son has a great dad.
Apparently the procedure will only take around 4 hours. So we're just here waiting. He doesn't seem too nervous. All good so far.

His was severe enough for the insurance to give it the go ahead. Which I hear can sometimes be tricky especially with my insurance company.

Glad they are covering it. Mine is definitely noticeable, but not what I would call 'severe'. I wish I had it fixed when younger, but I'm not even sure that was an option. I remember going to the doc for it when I was little, but don't recall any of the discussion.

It's weird that he showed no signs and everything looked normal until he started hitting puberty then his chest just started caving in.

Interesting. Mine appeared when I was suuuuper little. I think its reversed a bit as I've gotten older.
It does get magnified if I work out a lot though, no muscle to grow in the center :(
