On the plus side, I'll be travelling all over the country, so GRMers can meet me. Hey, I've shook Per Schroeder's hand, so you can all feel free to admire that hand.

I always thought "Support Personnel" referred to the "chicks." I hope Wowak knows what he's getting into.

"Groupies have sex with the band. Roadies have sex with the groupies."

FWIW I'm leaving for Nashville in the next few hours, so keep a keen eye out for the BRG/yellow Miata heading through Jacksonville, Atlanta, Chatanooga, and Nashville.

Alrighty, I made it to Nashville just in time to work the show at the Wildhorse Saloon last night. The Miata is safely in my buddy's garage, and we're going on the road.

I saw an ad for them last night at the grocery store. I just checked this page and found out they will be coming back to E'ville a few more times. If you'd like some tips for good places to eat, or want to see a really crappy car collection while you're in town, let me know.

I had enough time in E'ville to have dinner at the casino between setup/sooundcheck and the show, and then to walk across the street to the hotel and take a shower after the show, then the bus left for Pittsburgh. We don't usually have much time for tourism when we're in town, but I wouldn't mind if anybody stopped by the merch table to say hello. :)

Tonight we got back to Nashville for the first time since we left on august 2nd, about 10 hours behind schedule because the bus blew a coolant hose in Ohio, and I'm looking forward to taking m Miata for a spin tomorrow.

I'm sure a bit of this maybe the manager, label, etc talking to them about public image, etc. The guys maybe completely different once out of their costumes.

Sounds like a blast Wowak. Being the gatekeeper for guys like that is bound to have some serious fringe benefit's.

Are you doing sound? Stage craft? Tech?

I've been primarily managing the merchandise, but now that its well established that I'm competent and tolerable, we're going to discuss extra pay for instrument tech work.

Touring support, huh? How did you get that gig? I'm just curious because I'm a recently-graduated music recording/business major looking for anything in that field that actually pays and isn't a work-for-free internship...

I got the gig because the fiddle player is one of my best friends. Uh, its just like the music business everywhere: Its all in who you know (or who you blow.) Thankfully for me it was only who I knew.

Yeah, after a few months on the road its clear to me that the ones that are available to me and the ones I'm not afraid to put it in are not in the same group. Or even the same zip code.

My youngest son is a decent musician, excellent electronics guy, and has turned down numerous offers from his cousin to go on the road with him as "support personnel". The band? Foo Fighters. Dave Grohl is his cousin. THAT is big time! I think he's missing a big opportunity for some real story tellin' good times. He does go to a lot of their shows, travels with them for brief periods, but just does not want the life style that goes with it.
