...is this Friday. But I rode in today. I actually try to ride a couple days a week when weather and schedule aren't conspiring against me. I just put on a new set of Geax tires that I picked up on clearance from Nashbar. They're 1.9s with a little tread - more of a mixed surface touring tire than the 1.5" slicks I was running. The bike takes a little more to spin up to speed, but it feels a little more stable and is definitely more comfortable. I think'll they'll be great for commuting as well as some mixed surface and gravel rides.

So, anybody else celebrating by biking to work this week?
We are biking to the Bike to Work celebrations in Ann Arbor.
Someday, I may be able to bike the distance required to bike to work. But 70 miles in a day is tough.
My wife used to bike to work every day- starting in April and going to December- but now she runs. To her, biking is to nerve wracking.
Ouch. 70's a bit much. My ride in is about 7 miles but I often add 3-5 on the way home for fun.

Does biking to the train station work? I might make that happen.
Mine would be about 20 miles. Conveniently, the vast majority of it would be on trails or protected paths. There's actually a trail (former railbed) that runs right to my street, and the wife and I frequently run/bike on it. It connects to the Minuteman, which is a fairly massive trail system that runs right into the city.
But since I'm not up to 40 miles a day - I'm taking GPS's approach. Still counts as a bike right?
I bike to work periodically. I bike AT work often (~14.5 mile lunch ride several times a week). I don't think I'll be doing it Friday - leaving town early for vacation.
Anyone doing the National Bike Challenge?

One day I hope to make this a possibility!
I have 20 miles each way (probably at least 25 on a bike)with very little bike lanes. Just not feasable for me unfortunately. I also participated in the Ride Across California with my 11 year old daughter last month. I haven't touched my bike since then. My ass and seat have had a love-hate relationship for a while.
Biggest obstacle for me is that I bring my laptop home every day and I'd rather not ride with a backpack. Hmmm.
In reply to David S. Wallens:
Just add a carrier to the back.
I should have left yesterday

Messenger bags are the perfect accessory to a fixie
You'll have to buy all your clothes at the thrift store, become a beer snob, and shop exclusively at Whole Foods though.
This is on the way to work or on the way home depending on how I set things up, kills me every single time when I try to keep my speed up. 10+% grade in some areas.

I'm not nearly hip enough to ride a fixie.
Even if I worked this Friday, the notion of locking my bike up outside (unsupervised) for eight hours makes that a no go.
Too many shiny parts.

My daughter and I did that route when we were training for our Ride Across California. It's so steep they only allow you to ride up it, have to take another route back down.
I would love to bike to work every day but I have to cross over a very busy interstate. It's only 7 miles but i can't think of a sane way to get there.
I have cycled to work for 10 years running. I have boycotted bike to work day for ten years running. Amateurs clog up the trails, man. I got places to be. (note: I have never worn a stitch of spandex in all my biking years- of that I remain proud).

So, you are totally naked then? That's hardcore.
Bike to work? No way, 18 miles of traffic running 50mph+ and no sidewalks. Plus pouring rain and it would be a solid 3-5 hours to ride that far. I'd go down with a heart attack at 600 yards any how
At this point I'm a definite maybe.
I used to work regularly. I really enjoyed it, even the times when I was physically exhausted from work and still had to ride home, all up hill
I don't have a good way to get to my current job on a bike. You can't get there from here without being on a road with at least a 70mph speed limit. I'm not that crazy.
I'll be on two wheels, they'll just be motorized.
When the weather is nice here's how I take my little guy to daycare (he's not going tomorrow so no beans on that):
He goes 2 days a week, so that is 4 trips. I usually do 2-3 of those on the bike. I think its 7-8 miles roundtrip, takes me about 35-40 minutes of riding.
