Just a little er alot over challenge $$$ but hey its got a history.
But why so high a price? I would pay more for his '69 Vette, since that's the year he actually went to the moon. In '67, he was just another face in the NASA portfolio....

Read The Right Stuff. They were ALL Corvette guys.
In reply to Duke:
As the listing points out, back in that time some Chevy dealer was giving all of them Vettes. I'd like to have one like that...without the history.
In reply to bludroptop:
There's a sucker for every seat, and some of them are rich (probably inherited.).

I have.
But being given a Corvette doesn't automatically make you a Corvette guy.
I have George Washington's axe ! The head's been replaced 4 times, and the handle has been replaced 9 times... but it's GW's axe !!
Unless Neil flew this Vette to the moon, it's just another barn find...Call Wayne Carini.
It says "delivered to", not purchased by. Rathman was a clever salesman to see how to bump the price up in the future.
THIS CORVETTE WAS DELIVERED TO MR. NEIL ARMSTRONG THE FIRST MAN ON THE MOON, ON DECEMBER 15, 1966 FROM JIM RATHMAN CHEVROLET IN MELBOURNE FLORIDA UNDER A PROGRAM INITIATED BY MR. RATHMAN TO PROVIDE OUR ASTRONAUTS WITH A CORVETTE

Did you miss the whole part about semi-drunken "proficiency runs" across the countryside late at night?
It's been a while since I've read it (though I assure you that I will have read it again by next week), but are you sure that Mr. Armstrong was part of that?

It's been a while for me too, so no, I'm not 100% sure.

Armstrong was not part of that group the right stuff was about the Mercury project not the Apollo one. The Mercury Seven were Scott Carpenter, Gordon Cooper, John Glenn, Gus Grissom, Wally Schirra, Alan Shepard, and Deke Slayton.
"Space" collectors are a weird, rabid bunch.
I was at Oshkosh a few years ago, and I learned that Joe Engle was going to be there. Engle was an X-15 pilot, backup on Apollo 17(I think) and was the only person to ever hand fly a re-entry in an orbiter on STS-2.
Was was waiting in line to talk with him and maybe get him to sign my logbook. I front of me was a twitchy dude who looked like he was in a hurry and did NOT want to be there. I started talking to him, and got the impression that he wasn't like the rest of us. "If it wasn't for him (Engle), I'd never come to this place.
Stunned, I looked around and thought, "You drove God knows how far to get one man's autograph? Look at all this cool stuff. You're not going to notice any of it, are you?"
What an ass.
Joe, however, was one of the finest gentlemen I've ever met. Here's a man who's flown over 150 different aircraft and he ends up looking though my logbook to see what I've flown. Very, very cool guy.
I remember an article in Hot Rod (or some other mag) back int he 80's where there was a picture of three astronauts standing next to their new '68 or '69 Corvettes. Might have been the Apollo 11 guys.
That's a neat barn find, for sure. I dunno what the PO was thinking putting flares on it, though.
OK--so it was Apollo 12
a) my memory is scary--this is something I haven't thought of in 25 years or so
b) the internet is even scarier because I found the pics in 2 seconds

They re-enacted that scene (the taking of the Corvette pictures) in the miniseries "From the Earth to the Moon" in the episode dealing with Apollo 12.
