I'm expecting a few packages, and UPS says that they'll arrive today. Track them online, the e-mail said.

So I did.

At that time, the truck was literally around the corner--like all it had to was cross one street to arrive at our house. I probably could have seen the truck from end of our driveway.

Yay.

Then the truck was one block over.

Okay, that's cool. It's still close.

Then the truck left our neighborhood.

Boo.

I checked a few hours later, and the truck was back around the corner, heading our way.

Yay.

Then it was at the UPS Store down the street.

Okay, I can wait. The truck passed our house, but I get the whole "not turning left" thing.

And now the truck is allllllll the way across town.

UPS should add a feature: just chill and wait like you did in the '80s.

The more I want/need something in a hurry the more likely it is to show up at 9PM.  The E36 M3 I don't care about at all will show up around 9-10AM.

Last year I ordered a set of tires. They were "out for delivery" for about 10 days. I finally chased down our local driver and asked him WTH was going on. He said they were on his overload trailer back at the depot. If he had time he was supposed to go back and retrieve the trailer and start delivering those packages. It's 30 minutes each way with no traffic. There's always traffic and this poor guy was in our neighborhood until 9-10PM some nights. He asked me when I NEEDED the tires and I gave him a date. A few days before my deadline he delivered them.

I'm not in a hurry, but that truck was soooooo close on at least one occasion--like, see-it-from-the-driveway close.

Womp, womp.

Pylon is the original pylon. (Well, except now they're the Pylon Reenactment Society.)

But the band really is named for the pylons that we all know and love, although these were the ones found in a textile factory where some of the members worked.

I've noticed this before as well. My assumption is there some kind of time of delay on the location so someone couldn't try to hijack the truck or similar.

Could have been worse.  Saturday I get a notification that my package was delivered.  Nothing there.  The guy that handed it to me Monday evening said that sometimes they get tired on Saturday and just head back into the shop to let the Monday guys take care of it.

I now have an area rug on order. FedEx shows it still in New Jersey with an expected arrival here in Florida for tomorrow. That seems a bit optimistic for me, especially for the free shipping option.

I "ass-u-me" that UPS still has their same business model for delivery drivers from years ago where the driver gets daily, weekly, and monthly bonuses for delivering all their packages.  Making it an entire month getting all packages delivered each day was supposedly a big bonus (got daily bonus for every day, weekly bonus for 4 weeks, and the monthly bonus totaling to something like 40% of monthly salary).  I worked in an industrial park and the UPS guy would drive by several times each day because he knew when each business closed and made sure he got to the ones closing earlier before they closed up for the day.  Then he came back later on to deliver to the businesses that were open later.  Not a very efficient route from a mileage, fuel, and time perspective but he did everything he could to get his packages delivered each day to make the bonuses.

Right now I don't have an issue with shipping.  Here's my problem:  Ordered March 1st, label created March 5th.  Now, crickets.

Or like it was in the really old days. Remember when you had to send in a coupon from the back of a magazine along with a check, and a stamp? And then whatever you ordered arrived in like eight months. as a kid I would just forget that it even existed. And then suddenly it would show up on summer vacation and it was like Christmas in July

SWMBO has been waiting for a package all day following this app. I think there are some sick folks working at UPS laughing their a**'s off.

Don't buy the insurance, either.

I shipped a bunch of car parts today and figured since they're either custom, or rare I should insure them, just in case.

Then I got the terms and conditions email from UPS that says, we just thought we'd let you now, our insurance doesn't cover new parts, used parts, big parts, little parts, dull parts, shiny parts, and if somehow you've found a loophole, you probably didn't package it to our specifications. And just in case you did, we've included so many terms and conditions that there's no way you'll ever collect. So in the likely event that you think you may not be able to collect, cancel your order and re-do it without insurance. And of course I got the email after it was actually shipped.

In reply to Mr. Peabody :

Years ago, I had a guitar dinged during shipment. It was my guitar, and I shipped it ahead so I wouldn't have to fly with it. I thought that I was being clever. I insured it.

It arrived with a big ol' ding, and UPS said nope. I said look again. And they said nope again.

It was packed inside a gig bag inside a guitar box--same way they're shipped to the store.

Ha, try ordering from an "overseas" marketplace.  You get crickets for 2-3 weeks then it goes from we shipped it to check your mailbox in about 72 hours.

Today I got a msg. from Fedex at 11:11 am.  Delivery attempted, signature required.  Will reattempt tomorrow.

I was on the toilet.  No knock at the door, no doorbell ring.  W.T.F.

What I'm waiting on is some insecticide powder/blower for the largest yellow jacket nest ever.
