Oh, Jim Marsh Mitsubishi, what you won't do to pad every single car you sell! As if people are falling all over themselves to buy Mirages!
Now you've given us DSRP, the Dealer Suggested Retail Price!
A stripped out Mirage has an MSRP of $13,830, including freight. But good ol' Jim Marsh has other ideas.
Here's a base Mirage DE. Jim's Dealer Suggested Retail Price is $17,004 - a full $3,134 over MSRP.
Then Mr. Marsh will happily give you a $2989 discount from DSRP, in other words, $185 over MSRP. Ain't he generous?

I wouldn't pay $10,000 for one of those, let alone $17,000!
The link also suggests the generous APR of 6.9% for 60 months.

These are f9r people who either can get no car, or go to a bhph. While unscrupulous, knowing your clientele is key. Most won't know that you can go well under 10k (orlando mitsu is giving them away at 8900$). By the time you realize that even with a 550 score you can do a loan, this guy has stabbed you for over 3k cash+ 2%. Its sort of the same E36 M3 that lead to the blown up cobalt that i had to deal with. Make it seem like they're your only option, and then make it seem like you're a saint for making such a sweet deal.
I am sorry I can only pay $5000 for that car... but wait! Today only! I can give DOUBLE!!
What will you do with the extra $5000 you just made!?

I think this is from the indie movie "Safety Not Guaranteed." Good little flick, but odd. So, you know, indie.
It's nothing new, it's just a reworded way of getting a sap to pay an "adjusted dealer/market markup price". Every car on a lot here has this tacked on. I have yet to go deal with one of those baffoons yet. When I bought my Jetta it must have just been the right day as I still got it less then sticker without saying E36 M3 but I know they made the money back on E36 M3ty financing as I was in between a rock and hard place, falling apart truck vs E36 M3ty credit score at the time.
They are just hoping people aren't smart enough to recognize the difference in MSRP and DSRP.
My local Mitsubishi dealer is ADVERTISING $9,900 for one of those E36 M3 piles. Jim Marsh is going to have to sit on those a while.

If they're looking to buy a new Mitsu, they probably aren't.
Hahaha I'd counter-offer Jim Marsh with a CSRP of SIUYA, if you GWIM.
Whenever I see a late model Mirage I usually have empathy for the driver, because I have also made bad decisions in my life.
Then I smile because I know I own a '87 turbo Mirage!
on a related note.. what ever happened to Mitsubishi? For a long time they made decent cars (and almighty evo) and now they are worse than driving a Hyundai...

IMO they've gone downhill ever since Cordias, Tredias, and Starions...
Mine is a terrible appliance, that is for sure. I mean really, I had to actually open the hood the other day, for the fourth time, to add washer fluid. Really, with barely 30k miles, that is just too much.
And seriously, what's the deal with the lifetime mpg average only 42mpg or so? On a new car with power everything that weighs under 2k# I expected better.
I suppose I should start driving the E36 in my driveway. It's only going to cost 6 months worth of car payments to get the cooling system fixed, and it will only go half as far on a gallon of gas, but at least I won't look like a sad person who has bad credit while I drive and try to get anything electrical to stay working or read the endless warning messages on the dash instead of the Bluetooth stereo reading my texts to me.

Clearly driving a cheap, reliable car isnt for you. May i suggest a well used biturbo?

Not to defend Jim Marsh, but in fairness, a couple additional facts. His is the only Mitsu dealer in town. The next closest is 100 miles away in St. George, UT. After that, you can go 150 miles to Victorville Mitsubishi in CA.
So if someone really wants a Mitsubishi (WHY??), they will put up with his crap.
I think the big part of the business is "selling" base Mirage CVT to rental-car companies. Virtually every Mirage I see has a barcode sticker on it. At that rate, he probably doesn't need retail sales to make money.

Must be a regional thing. Down here its all versa notes. Piles of em.
Found the same thing shopping for trucks. Some have them for 10k off MSRP and some have them marked up like you're getting a gold plated toilet with your purchase and should be humbled having the privilege of buying from them

But can you haul a GM Slim-Jim transmission in it like you did with the Mini?

sound like how Subaru does their marketing in this area: there are only a few dealers in the state, so all their radio commercials and print ads point out how different and unique you are for buying one and how lucky you are to be able to spend extra money for an all wheel drive system that won't really be used to it's full potential in all the mall parking lots you are sure to be in.
