So I currently have an iPhone 3. And apparently with the new iOS anything before the iPhone 4 will not be supported. I guess Apple is releasing the iPhone 5s and 5c and the old 5 will no longer be offered but I don't really want the plastic cased 5c and I don't want to pay $200 for a phone. So does anyone know if AT&T is going to sell off the remaining old 5 phones or if the only option will be the 5s or 5c?
Yeah, they always continue to sell the older models for cheaper than the newest ones. But $100 more for a dramatically improved piece of equipment you use all the time? I'll take the new one.
I love my iPhone 5. Much better than the previous HTC EVO I Had.
Since one was able to get an 4 up to a few weeks ago, and I can still get a new 4s, I don't see why the 5 won't be available. The guy at Sprint talked us out of getting a 4, and suggested waiting until the new one came out, as they would 1) make the 5 cheaper, and 2) may have the 4s as the "free" one.
Odds are that there will be multiple ones available, just as they are now.
CANO.......oh. It's a real topic.

(In before the onslaught of "Android is better! berkeley Apple! Get a xyz Droid..." comments. Oh, and I love my S3.)

I was going to say the same thing. I'm still happy with my 4S, but I'm sure I'll check out the new ones the next time I'm at the Apple Store--not that I'm looking to upgrade, more just to see them. Looks like the iOS will be here soon, too.
Your current 3 will keep working just as it is, of course.
The new 5s sure looks tasty. Hopefully that extra horsepower isn't needed for iOS7. I've got an iPod Touch that got really slow with an OS update, and I'd hate to see that happen with my iPhone 5.
Like others, I expect the 4S will go to "free" status, the 5 will become the affordable new phone and the 5s will be the fancy pants top dollar option. The 4S is still a pretty decent unit.
I am waiting for 6 to come out next fall because it will have a larger screen.
I'll stick with my google nexus 4, you can get them for $200 now with NO CONTRACT. I also use redpocket as my carrier.
Iphones are just too small compared to the nexus is average android size

For some, that's a plus.
"It's great at everything except being a phone!" I have a friend with a galaxy. I don't get it. Like talking on an ipad.
Some of the androids are just hilariously large.
4S is now free. I'm happy with mine until the new cables can be had for cheap
If I had a 4s I wouldn't have upgraded to 5. But I had a 4 and the 5 seemed way faster. My friends 4s back to back with my 5 opens apps at the same speed, seems about the same other than the longer screen, which doesn't seem like a big deal. Had a galaxy 3 or 4 or whatever for 3 days and went back to apple.

FWIW, I'd been running iOS 7 on my 4s for a few months.... when I ordered my Galaxy S4 Active. I love my Android.

Amazon. No more expensive than the old connectors by this point. At least, not enough to bother complaining about.

Friend of mine has one of those "phablets" I always tell him that his eyes will go bad from sitting too close to the teevee

which is to say... not very well... I got one cheap from a friend about a year ago when my wife killed her phone and we needed one for a while... they stopped supporting the 3 a while back to the point that virtually nothing was avl app wise for it... no facebook or anything like that was avl without jailbraking and doing some other things and even then it had to load old versions of the app.... the 3S was still supported at the same time...
IMHO 1 generation old phone is the best value if you plan to keep the phone for 2 years... much older then that and you are dealing with seriously meh hardware at the end of those two years...

Apple made a big deal of the fact that the plastic case has "steel reinforcement" in it, throughout the reveal. If you're afraid the plastic is going to feel cheap and light, I'd wait to try it out. It's pretty much the current 5, in a colorful plastic shell.
The choice of a 64 bit processor is rather interesting. I think a lot of the horsepower race is to support the insane 3D games that are apparently being made for iOS now. My 5 is a nice phone, but I'm sure my uses of it (phone, email, web, Facebook, Twitter) barely scratch the surface of it.
That said, this Bluetooth Smart (aka Bluetooth 4, aka Bluetooth Low Energy) is bringing lots of fun things into play...

I had the 1st generation iPhone. My wife had a 3GS as her first smart phone. While her phone performed better than mine in many ways, it never felt as good in the hand as the metal shelled first generation.
I made the leap from iOS 3.1.3 to 6.0 in January when I got a 5. While the double glass 4 and 4S were reasonably nice, even those didn't match the metal 1st gen or iPhone 5 for me. My wife got a 5 at the same time, and she also likes it more than the 3GS.
If you can find a 5 at a reasonable price, I don't see a reason not to get one. I'm reserving judgement on the 5C until I get my hands on one. Plastic can take on nearly any form, and it's amazing how the same kind of plastic can feel premium or cheap depending on how it's used.
The fingerprint sensor of the 5S is intriguing, but not a game changer. The extra horsepower is also appreciated, but I imagine battery life won't be very good. It's one of the few things I'm displeased with on my iPhone 5, and I can't imagine a 64 bit processor and more power somehow being more sippy on the juice.

yup... android had that 3 years ago... obviously didn't change the world... but I do understand it as a perk for some
yay new iphone.. now to watch the fanbois line up around the block to ge the new one first.
I have nothing against apple products, but their fanbois kill it for me
I may get a 4s cause it is free and I already have car chargers and stuff that fit that.
Actually, Apple says the 5s will have a much longer battery life.
