My new German Shepherd puppy, Lucy. Got her last night, 13 weeks old.

And one of her with my 2.75ish year old shep/lab mix Max. He's awesome and they're pretty much inseparable after one night together. I can only hope she turns out to be as great of a dog as he is.

I'm just excited and wanted to brag.

Not the same thing, but last night I delivered a couple of pizzas to a house where a new Yorkie (mixed?) pup had just joined a household with an adult cat. They SEEMED to be getting along, but as I told the owner...I bet that the current situation doesn't stay that way. Once that Yorkie gets settled into his new home, he may decide that he doesn't care to be pals with a cat.

BTW, beautiful looking pup.

That's a good looking dog.

..they grow into those ears.

I thought my Malinois was a shepherd at first and named her Ohren. German for "ears".

For the love of doG, don't let her play with your shoes....trust me.

Yep. The ears and the paws are too big for the pup. She's going to be a big one. One of mine ignored my shoes and went right for the remote when she was that age.

I'd put money on the cat winning that one, they usually do.

Nice looking puppy - I want one!

Cute little gal! If she grows to fit the ears AND the feet, she'll be a big 'un.

Awwww....

Theirs nothing like a good dog.

I have wanted a German Shepard for a while now after a friend of mine got one, but it will have to wait because right now i have all the dog i can handle with a Brittany Spaniel and a Golden Retriever.

Looks like Max is rolling his eyes. "Sheesh, I gotta share my couch with this kid?"

Talking to a NYC cop recently, they get their Shepards from Romania or Czechoslovacia; much less in breeding and no hip displacia.

So how do we get one from Romania? I could imagine that might be a nightmare.

congrats! she's a beautiful dog.

my family had a german shepherd when i was a kid. we got Horst as an adult, when some white trash in our neighborhood moved away and left the dog behind. we had him for about 6 years when his hips got so bad that we had to have him whacked. i'd love to get another, starting from a pup, but not until the kids are big enough to share the responsibility.

Hip problems suck for that breed. They suck for any breed but like another poster mentioned before the popularity in the 80's before hip tests didn't do much for this breed.

If you like Shepherds you may also like Belgian Malinois's. I have one and she's a riot. Like GSD's, they train easily. You have to make the rules and be consistent but once that's done they're usually very obedient.
