When the new DI LSx-based V6 came out I thought it might be interesting to see what one would cost when equipped like out 06 CC. Now, our crew cab stickered at $26,5xx brand new. I got the supplier discount, a $5k trade and was out the door with taxes/title fees for $19k.
To get it with the V6 and equipped like our current truck (WITHOUT my upgrades) was $38k. To get it with the V8 put it over $40k.
That's a 2WD, Crew Cab with the shortbed and towing package, cloth interior, nothing fancy.
Yeah, we'll keep ous until it rusts in half and has a million miles.
I can only partially agree with the "truck pricing is getting ridiculous" idea.
1) Truck prices for basic trucks aren't any more expensive. Standard cab, rubber mat, fleet, etc.
2) The 1/2 ton crew cab is the modern day 'Merican family sedan ala 1970's. v8 rwd body on frame, and packed with fluffy luxuries. Yes pricing on these has risen, but this is a profit center and they're in demand.
Basically, if you just NEED a truck for truck stuff, they're no more expensive. If you WANT a fancy one to drive your family around in, yes they add up quick.
Anybody else notice that rent is too damn high too?
Truck pricing has been out of hand for years now (if you're looking strictly at sticker price. Play the incentive game when shopping for sure. Still not cheap.
The funny thing is a 50K truck passes fairly unnoticed and isn't often acknowledged as a 'rich mans' item like a 50K BMW, Audi, or Corvette.

Disagree. The same truck, same options is almost $14k more from 8 years ago. I know we have inflation, but htat's pretty high. I'm talking one step above super base. Carpet, cloth, no foglights, no aluminum wheels, not Satellite, no nav. Just a CD player.
My 05 crew cab, 8' bed F-250 diesel with several options including the appearance pack stickered at $46k.

I stopped to look at new Suburbans just for the heck of it. Looked at a black 1/2 ton 4x4 with leather and a sunroof and it was just over 60k. I got back in my 89 1/2ton 4x4 Suburban and started thinking about LS1 swaps for it instead. No way I'm dropping 60k on a new one.

The 2013 F-350 dad bought last year stickered for $53k.....diesel, 4wd, single cab, long bed, xlt package with no carpet, cloth seats, and my touch.
I think out the door he was somewhere around $44k before his trade in value. Its a hell of a lot better driving truck than those before it though.

this is gm's giant F U to ford - we don't need no steenkin turbos...
or multiple cams... or more than one intake and one exhaust valve in each cylinder..
of course there will always be the "herpa derpa hp per liter herpa derpa" people out there...

Sales is funny - what you drive determines a lot. I am in industrial sales and I can pull up in a used $20,000 Cadillac and get razzed about pricing and how much money I am making.
Pull up in a $40,000 Silverado and nobody blinks or cares.
Then I have the owner of a pump rep company that drives a new Escalade as he is entertaining contractor's owners and bankers. If he shows up in a Taurus it looks like his business is doing poorly.
The old "complain about something I wasn't going to buy anyway" thread?
A GRM classic.
Check out the price on used trucks, too. Just as ridiculous. I'm seeing 2-4 year old Ram 1500s with ~80K miles listed for around $30K in my area.
I really want to get a truck before next year (for towing cars to long-distance events and house stuff), but I don't see that happening!

but think what it will do WITH the turbos...
I've also heard that late winter/early spring is the worst time to buy a truck because prices are the highest.
Heck, I traded my old truck in in February '11. I got almost double the KBB trade-in value.

The used prices are climbing partially thanks to the climbing new prices.

My buddy just bought a 2014 loaded quad cab, 4x4 Ram for $25k
Ya, but these trucks (the 25K rams) are essentially the same as the ones a decade ago, they better be damn cheap! You can get those here for $26k, but its the hemi w/6 speed (non-of-the-mpgs) and you have to take it off the lot as it comes (not very handy when a truck doesn't come with a hitch or a brake controller). The 2014 nissan titan is also only $26k for their base model... and it's a LOT of truck. But as Bobzilla pointed out, you can't get a base model with the stuff you really need. If I am to justify a new truck, it needs to be a crew cab 4x4 and get decent mpg. The v6 with 8 speed dodge's are close to $40k with the most basic of options...
Now, I haven't walked into a dealership yet to try and haggle, but the high advertised prices really turn me off the idea to begin with and nobody seems to advertise real prices.
Wow.... used prices have gone up. Our GMC is worth about 2 grand more than last year. Still not selling it. Plain and simple, the new ones don't function the way ours does (the way the rear seats fold) and they are friggin hugenormoustuan. I wouldn't mind having that new 6spd auto behind my LR4 though.
Is saying "but as Bobzilla pointed out" the same as agreeing with him?
In reply to Swank Force One:
No, it is 100% completely unlike that. Totally different.
EDIT: So I just checked KBB on ours. with the mileage, and rated as "good" (which those who know the truck know it's actually excellent) trade-in is $12.600 and private party resale is $14,700. We paid $19k out the door in 2006.
Take that resale value HONDA! lol

It's tradition!
I felt like bending over when I plunked down more than 40 grand for my F-150, but you can't really say that pickups are overpriced. Not when they occupy #1, #2, and #5 on the best-selling vehicles list like they did last year: http://www.autoblog.com/2014/01/06/top-10-best-selling-vehicles-2013/

But its a 2wd.....which means "Nearly Unsellable" in Indiana.
^To be fair, nearly every car mentioned on this site is considered overpriced.
And that is perfectly fine for me. We're keeping this thing until Will sells his Civic, or it rusts in two. Whichever comes first.

I can see that. I mean, have you SEEN what new ones cost? There's a thread about that somewhere on this very forum, I think.

I think you are right.....this has been discussed at some point. Perhaps 2 years ago when I offered a dealer a fair price on a '94 f150 and they refused wanting their jacked up price for it? berkeleying dicks.....I kinda wanted that 300/5sp/rwd f150.
