I started with my first "real" camera out of high school in 1985 as a Nikon FG.  Fairly new at the time, all the manual settings but it did have P and A to get me comfy with composition first, then move into lighting, depth of field, etc.

Plus it let me build up the lens collection and of course more bodies (N2020 then 8008 and a used F3HP).  Funny thing, I still have the F3HP that sits with my current digital Nikon.  And I bought back my FG from my Navy friend I sold it to when I bought the 8008.

Now you got me curious what old manual Nikon bodies are going for.

Looks like a black Nikon FG body in excellent condition goes for $125.

Might be a good idea to ask her which INSTAX she has, and what she likes about it.

I find that my own Father/Daughter conversations are incredibly revealing, and let Little Warship know that her opinions matter and that she can always talk to me.  She had expressed interest in using a P&S I had years ago so I bought her one of her own that she adored, and I eventually bought a D3300 for her when they came out, though I believe she liked the simplicity of the P&S better.  (She also loves cars and is very artsy)
