I've never saw ANYONE complain about using ( as a user) a vbulletin website.

Well, Jay just complained. Seriously, we're working on some new web stuff for the GRM site, but a new message board is not in the immediate plans. We have bigger things to first fix.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying you SHOULD switch. As others have pointed out, you are kind of stuck with what you have. That's fine.

I just don't think it's very honest to say that the GRM boards (whatever they are made with) is better than vbulletin boards.

I am complaining about vBulletin right now. It's clunky, slow, buggy, and vulnerable to countless exploits. Because it's so ubiquitous, every 12-year-old script kiddie (and spam farmer) knows how to take it down... if the admins aren't accidentally borking it themselves by doing some extremely minor procedure the slightest bit wrong. If you think we have canoe problems now, try going on an unvigilant vB site and see what happens.

I have been on MULTIPLE (seriously, like four or five now) vBulletin boards that went down during an 'upgrade' and lost everything. Posts, profiles, threads, PMs... gone. DMCTalk. Starquestclub. Buzzchurch. BAUT. 4G61T. Dori-Kaze... so many more. All of them brought down by vB problems at some point, some never came back, others lost everything, some were salvaged only after weeks of work by their admin teams. Do we want that here? I don't.

This board software is also FAST compared to vB. To some of us that still matters a lot. My only internet connection drops to dial-up speed (6 kB/s max) when I exceed a certain bandwidth limit each month. vB boards load awkwardly and unreliably at those speeds, and I frequently just have to give up. This one pops up dead reliably every time. It loads pages in one "pass" and uses about 1/3 the bandwidth to do so.

Not to mention GRM has by far the most usable mobile site of any message board I frequent. Most of the vB boards don't even have one at all. Makes browsing on a phone aggravating to say the least.

What we use here may not be perfect, but it works. I don't know how much of Tim Baxter's original code is still here but he custom wrote it for this site and it's been dramatically improved since then. It's not broken. I don't wanna see it "fixed" by introducing a new system based on a terrible product.

I use the mobile site frome a kindle DX for about half my viewing. This includes the majority of my canoe deletion each morning. If we move to software that doesn't work from a text based browser, I cannot do that.

I love the GRM board! Please don't change it! Different is good!

And that's enough out of you vBulletin fanbois!

Add me to that list (no vB), the occasional missing button doesn't bother me. I actually have "Your Posts" bookmarked, I was using it this morning when the button was gone.

I just figured the board was just as GRM as anything else down in Holly Hill.
