They're predicting doom and gloom around here. I'm heading into work for a fourteen hour shift, but they can order me in for as long as thirty six. All the surrounding towns have evacuation orders. They are predicting high tides of eleven feet above normal. I'm fairly certain that we're going to be disappointed.
Everything is all buttoned down at home. We have plenty of food, water, fuel, ammo, etc., and we're at the top of a hill. I'm hoping that they'll let me go home at the end of my shift, but I'm sure that everything will be okay in the long run, even if I have to stay.
Could be an interesting few days, though.
The weather folks have worked themselves into a lather predicting our death and destruction. Even PP&L had an automated phone call to warn us that power might go out. I went to the liquor store and put some gas in the car. I think I'm ready.
+1 on that. I got 3 cases of beer, plenty of liquor, and one 5 gallon batch of beer fermenting furiously as I type.
Oh, and I somehow already had gas from the last bout of stupidity two months ago.
Keep thinking about getting a handgun, but going back and forth-- the tension started to get high last time after a couple days, but nothing requiring deterrents.
I'm hoping everyone is overreacting but everything here taken care of just in case. I've got to be back to work for 6am.

Speaking of automated calls, BGE (Baltimore gas & electric) call me 20 min ago to say there is a storm coming through..... Really?

Comcast has been calling us for two days. SWMBO finally picked up the phone, and it told us how to check outages using a cellular device, and how we should stay away from downed lines. Really?
I've got popcorn and am prepared to watch Jim Cantore stand in the rain and talk about how windy it is and all that. Just like he does with every hurricane.

Honestly, it's to keep inbound open. The call centers cover a very large area. If there are outages, people are going to call, mainly elderly people and it's going to clog up inbound for people who are calling from other areas that may not be affected by the storm.
They are just covering their bases. They want to get the word out before it happens.
Oh and I've seen people totally ignore downed lines. 
I just got a call from home. It's barely raining, no wind and I've already lost my berkeleying power.

Haha. I got that call too. You mean we could actually lose cable service? NOOOOOOOOO! The humanity!
It's drizzling here in central VA, with a bit of a breeze a-blowing. Hope it heads further up the coast before it turns inland. Best of luck to you yanks from a transplanted Jersey resident.

I don't think it possibly could be as bad as they are "predicting".
Sensationalism in journalism is out of control but no where is it as bad as it is in the weather prediction. When the last hurricane sent storms into the Midwest they predicted 18+ inches of rain. Everyone flipped out as that would be terrible. They where exactly right about when the rain would start/stop buy we barely got 3" over 2 days. I'm just not sure how they could be that far off.
I've stowed away a ton of potable and non-potable water. Brought in a stack of firewood. Filled the extra freezer with ice and filled up every vehicle with fuel.
I'm ready.

NOAA is really laying it on thick. That's their new deal. They have decided to threaten death and destruction because they felt their previous warnings weren't getting into peoples heads.
And not only that, but I have always felt that Meteorologists can predict weather like a rock can. All they can do is guess.

Plus it's much better for NOAA to say "ERMGERD HERRICANE" and have people stock up on supplies and be prepared than it is for them to be like "Hurricane Warning for the Eastern Seaboard, News at 11" and have the public pissed about the lack of warning.
I always marvel at meteorologists. Who else gets paid for being wrong 50% of the time?
