What would be a rough average for the total number of penalty cones over the course of a typical local event?

Obviously, this will vary widely from region to region, depending on the size of the various sites.

With the hopes that I actually can get my my car finished, I'm looking to do some sort of "donation" program to local organizations who could use a few extra dollars.

Basically, I'm thinking that I will donate a certain amount for each cone killed, by all drivers, over the course of the event.

I just want to do something good for my community, but at the same time, I don't want to over-commit and not be able to do what I want.

Any input?

I would venture around 30-40. Of course, even day to day that may change. I've seen one car take out 20 cones in a really big spin...

We had 52 of them hit at our last event, with 56% of them hit by our 9 Pro class drivers (36 or so drivers total).

Not too bad so far... It's been awhile since I've been able to run, and as I recall, I used to hit about that many myself...

But I had crappy cars with serious understeer, and lack of talent... Thankfully, I have the understeer problem solved.

Keep the input coming... I just want to do something nice for my local humane society and animal-rescue people...

Please, think of the kittens...

As long as I'm not in the event you should be fine.

My daughter took out 17 on one run once.

Last run of the day. Having WAAAY too much fun in the Yugo from Hell.

Once she realized she'd clipped a couple and the run was worthless, she went hog wild.

Earned a standing ovation!

Took a quick count from our first event of this season. We had 132 drivers with 6 runs each. A total of 334 cones were hit.

Second event: 160 drivers, 5 runs, 263 cones.

I once ploughed a big Honda Accord through a Chicago Box sideways. I think they gave me a DNF rather than counting cones, but it was at least a dozen. You may want to be the course designer for this one! Certain elements use more cones than others.

I know I'm personally good for half a dozen plus per event. Id say 40 to 60 per event sounds like a reasonable number.

At the last event I was at, a 29.9 was FTD, it had a "virtual road course" type layout (eg, lots of cones rather than a "minimal cone" type layout), and we each had 5 runs. I'd say the average person took out about 3-4 cones over his 5 runs.

You got a Honda Accord sideways?

Many cones take a hit, few die.

Just don't let the other drivers know beforehand that their cones will equal dollars out of your pocket, or the cone carnage may be exceptional.

i think our numbers were ~160 drivers, 5 runs a peice, ~160 cones hit on our 1st event of the season this year.

I've seen an evo that actually ate cones(never to be found again) before.....that was amusing.

I've only seen 2-3 cones personally that couldn't be reused......thats over close to 35 total events

Lately, we seem compelled to use every friggin' cone in the trailer - 30 pylons to define an element when a pivot cone and a pointer would do.

Slow day at the office so I did a quick tally of a recent event - 77 drivers, 4 runs each = 150 cones hit, not including 54 off-course excursions. It was a fairly technical course, but I blame much of the carnage on the 'sea of cones' effect.

Heh heh, come to a rally cross. We know how to destroy some cones.

Last year I made my final run of the day in my Camaro, and hit a couple cones--no big deal. Went back to the paddock, jacked up the car, changed tires, and drove about 10 miles to dinner with everybody else. One guy said I spit out a cone a mile into the drive, and it plopped itself upright, smack in the middle of the right hand lane.

I didn't see/hear/feel a thing.
