That was something that had already been planned as a Top Gear event. From the BBC:
A deal has been done to fulfill a series of live shows that were planned before the presenter was dropped from the show for hitting a producer. The gigs will be stripped of all BBC branding and content and will be called Clarkson, Hammond and May Live. The first live show will take place in Belfast on 22 May.
BBC Worldwide said it had agreed the tour could continue "so as to not disappoint fans". A spokesman called it "a sensible approach in the circumstances". Thousands of people around the world had already bought tickets.
A spokesman for Brand Events, who are co-producing the shows, said they wanted to thank "ticket holders for their continued patience". "The fans are the most important people to Jeremy, Richard and James so we're delighted to be able to say 'we're still coming'. We're sure it'll be something you won't want to miss."
The shows will take place in venues around the world including Australia, Norway, South Africa and the UK. Live shows that were due to take place in Stavanger, Norway earlier this month have been re-scheduled to 20 and 21 June. A Top Gear Festival planned for Sydney in April will instead become an indoor arena show staged in both Melbourne on 18-19 July and Sydney on 25 -26 July.
There were supposed to be 2 more Top Gear Live shows coming up by me in the next few years, have to see what happens now...
I wonder if the new show will have a "Top Gear" budget?
Or are we going to see the new Dacia Sandero put though its paces?

I remain mystified as to why they've never done a swing through the US. Or even Canada, as far as I know. I'd be willing to drive to Toronto for it.
Maybe the live shows are better in person. The ones I've watched on YouTube and the like leave me very much "meh" about them.
I had fun at the one I went to see. I got to see Clarkson nearly get killed multiple times and a hilarious Reliant Robin car soccer match, which included Lewis Hamilton trying to do a donut in one. I have videos.
Edit: Oh and synchronized Mercedes F1/Ford GRC donuts was pretty cool too

Discovery could probably put forth a proper Top Gear budget. It would pay off in massive ratings, so it would be worth the investment.

Current US Top Gear is on History channel, (don't know if they are owned by same company), maybe this is our chance to get these guys to host it?

the US version of Top Gear is a BBC production, most of the same upper level production crew is involved. same with all the other local versions of the show from around the world... so Clarkson will not be hosting it any time soon..

I'm thinking doing it through British Discovery and showing it here would be WAY better, as they'd still be allowed to say that a car is crap (see: Fifth Gear, a Discovery UK show where they're allowed to say a car is crap). Anything on the US History Channel will still be at the mercy of advertisers--thus why TGUS only evaluates the occasional supercar and mostly sticks to "challenges" that offend no advertisers.
I love that Clarkson was able to crap all over the the Lexus RCF in one of the final episodes without worrying about what Lexus had to say to the network. That makes good TV.
I'm actually ok with a new TG without the TG budget. It was getting annoying to watch them take a perfectly good Lotus off roading. Once or twice it's funny but when they are constantly ruining cool cars just for the sake of burning cash I just don't like it.
Something I've noticed since Clarkson was sacked is that you can now find full episodes of Top Gear on Youtube, right up through the current season and the last episode. It used to be that Youtube would block them but maybe they don't care anymore. I think pretty much every single episode from every season is available.
