I also think we need something called "open biathlon" where two sports are selected at random from the entire Olympic roster and competition begins immediately with zero additional athlete preparation. i want to see someone play badminton then to BMW freestyle.
We can't just glaze over how much I want to start a BMW freestyle team. Open biathlon would get all the views.

Let me clarify: the event looked weird to me, someone who does not watch sports until the Olympics or World Cup is on. Very likely it is the same format or all sorts of people would be yelling.

Understood. Yeah, it all looked normal to me. But this is the only time you'll get me to pay attention to a sport on TV That doesn't have names like Gravedigger and Bigfoot attached to it.

I'm in for this. What BMW's are we using? Are these...challenge eligible BMW's? Actually nice ones?

I saw open it up to anything BMW powered. Motorcycles, cars, airplanes, dirigibles, etc.

Keys out of a jar, like my NASCAR proposition. You don't know what you've got til you're on the starting line. "Oh he's done well in air pistol....Oh bad break. Those are the blimp keys. Surely that will hurt his slalom time."

I like it, but how do you score? Aggregate of the past 20 years finalists scores? Thats usually a range of 8 individual scores

standard pro rules? I mean, I kinda know how to score a bmx comp, racing is easy enough- some of the other stuff is weird (how DO you judge ribbon on a stick?) If a racing event came about you'd probably have to have PAX and raw unless there was some sort of spec equipment- be it Zamboni or Miata. You'd also have to have provisions for safety i'd assume, I'm watching kayaking right now as an example- and I watched most of surfing, and I have to imagine there as some other athletes that would actually die doing these events, where as most PROBABLY wouldn't doing....gymnastics or weightlifting? Maybe you'd have to have it be a team comp, and gamble. Do you have your bike guy go early on the gamble that you don't draw his other discipline later? There's so many options. There's also the possibility of the oft discussed Barb rule- wherein the entire event is judged by how well someone from the crowd does as a benchmark. "Oh...oh this is Barbs first time on a BMX bike...oh she really could use training wheels...."

Again, the tech they are putting into judging, bringing the Olympics to us, etc. Amazing.
They just did a matrix 360 view where they paused a vault attempt mid-air, spun it 90, unpaused for half a second to show a transition, rewound it back to the first pause point, went another 90 degrees and let it playout.
Did it while the commenters were talking a out it in real time
Every year there is a sport that I never heard of this year it was 3v3 women's Basketball. It was really fast paced at times looking like a pickup game, but entertaining.

Silly question, but does anyone know how to watch soccer?
I tried to figure it out for my son earlier today, but kept getting met with "create this account" or "subscribe to this service" nonsense. Trying to find a time when it would be broadcast over the air was futile as well..
I'm not a sportsy kinda person, so I'm pretty ignorant to all this stuff but my 9 year old wanted to check it out.
BRONZE FOR THE WOMEN'S RUGBY TEAM!!! UNBELIEVABLE FINISH. I WAS LITERALLY IN TEARS. OMG

Depending on what game, you need to scroll through here. It should give you where to watch on the far right

Thanks guys, that's what I found too.. I couldn't get the USA app thingie to work on the Roku (probably because I don't have cable TV, only internet?), and NBCOlympics.com seems to be a trial thing that doesn't let you watch a full game without getting a peacock subscription. Perhaps it's time to swash some buckles once again.

Too bad they don't do that for tennis. The US open has fully automated line calls, but for this tournament, they don't even have video review. Instead, the ump comes out of their chair to look at scuff marks. And have some bad rules for umpire overturn calls. It's a mess.

There's been a bunch of accusations swirling around the judges across several games. I know the greeks are pissed about fencing right now, and I saw an american athlete protest similar during the fencing bronze yesterday. I know berkeley all about fencing that doesn't involve cardboard wrapping paper tubes, so i'm useless- but it does not appear to be an isolated incident to either sport or person.

Not sure she would have won had she gotten the call, but it's still a major embarrassment.
On the theme of judges- watching the US men's gymnastics, seems that they were down scored a few times- as if the old days of we all know who will win was already there. Really makes is hard to watch subjective sports when you see some apparent imbalance in the scoring.
