Women's skateboarding finals is on. I say Women's. The oldest I saw was 23, most appear to be 14-16.
Wonder why such a strong difference between Men's (where they are 25-35ish) and Women's

One of them is so young that she's not supported by her country's Olympic committee because she is too young. So far, she's in the top 8. I bet Finland changes their rules soon.

Won by a 14 year old from down under. So cool to see the competitors cheer so hard for each other.

Maybe simply because men have been at it longer? Women competing at that level is still a pretty new thing.

I probably would have accepted that 10-20 years ago, but today? I dunno. Doesn't ring true for some reason
In reply to Mr_Asa :
anecdotal evidence-
In sports where both men and women compete, the womens time frame seems to be earlier than mens. Wrestling, board sports, etc. I was watching WWE SummerSlam today and while some of the male competitors are into their 40s on a pretty regular basis, most of the women have retired from competition well before then. Seems to bleed over to other sports as well. They were talking about Leticia Bufoni- a legend in womens skating, who's more or less retired from competition, being at the comp. She's 31. Nyjah Huston the other hand, won Bronze, and he's 29, so basically the same age.
Mens Olympic basketball on NBC/USA network means they get to use the old NBA on NBC theme. Instant nostalgia.
In reply to Mndsm :
There are exceptions- there's a 30 y/o woman in the gold medal match for the US. Not sure when it is- but I saw her win the semi today.
In reply to alfadriver :
Yeah, nothing is ever 100%. Just an observation I made while watching obviously not faked professional wrestling.
I was also absolutely baffled that Simone Biles is A- married and B- 27. I thought most gymnasts had aged out several years before that.

Emphasizing this. The men's 1500 was a fantastic race!
What a champion! Youngest gold medal winner in USA wrestling. She obviously put the work in!
In other wrestling news, he might not be a U.S. athlete, but my hat is off to Mijain Lopez. FIVE golds in the same event. FIVE. An event never duplicated, and at age 41.

Biles has not ruled out Los Angeles. She'll be 31.
And still better than most. She's 4'8" and can spring herself over the tallest player in the NBA. E36 M3's wild.

Rather sharp contrast to the mens age range- there's a 51 year old guy from California skating for GB. Almost old enough to be the 13y/o grandfather. He skated doubles with Tony Hawk.

We first saw it live, and decided to watch the replay during the prime time show- the pre race feature between the Norwegian and Brit was precious knowing how the race came out.
They seem to prepare for this exact kind of race, where Ingebrigtsen would take it out like a cannon and burn everyone out. Seeing how the Kenyans blow out on the last lap- it was a solid plan. But all three Americans ran together as if they suspected this would happen. Hocker mentioned that he knew he had the better kick between Ingebrigtsen and Kerr. Nuguse *almost* got Kerr for silver, but seeing his reaction, that was way more than he expected.
In reply to alfadriver :
They made that hockers race despite the pace being so fast. His kick is nearly impossible to overcome.

Yep. She launched herself to 12'2" during her floor exercise. That 2 1/2 times her height!

Any enjoyment I might possibly have for steeplechase is tainted by my hatred of wet feet and the constant thought of "well they should at least be able to stop and change their socks after that water pit" every time they go through it. Also the painfully triggering thought that if you're going to have wet feet, landing in the water pit fully with one foot and partially with the other means you're going to have not only wet feet, but two feet of differing wetness which is possibly the worst hell imaginable.
