I've got to do a surprise work trip to Charlotte NC and will be there Wednesday night. What's a good place to eat dinner, maybe grab a beer? Any good local brew pubs or breweries? I'm staying by the airport but do have a rental car.

Olde Mecklenburg Brewery for beers and entertainment. it is modeled after a biergarten. Food is good and the beer is better.
There is a distillery across the street too.
Olde Meck is good but limited to traditional German style beers - it's the biggest local brewery. If you prefer IPA's and other popular styles, you are probably better off just down the street at Sugar Creek Brewery - and they have a small menu with decent food. Wooden Robot and Sycamore are good too, but may not have food.
Duckworth's is a bar/restaurant I like with a huge beer selection (on tap and in bottles) and good food. Plus there are a few other bars close by on Montford if you want to check out a couple of spots.
All of these are maybe 7-8 miles from the airport. 5 church is good but spendy - definitely more cuisine than comfort food. Cowfish is pretty cool if you like sushi (and slider hamburgers!) but a little further away.
Awesome, guys, thanks. Old Meck and Sugar Creek are both on my radar. If my wife were going 5 church might be a thing, assuming they arent overbooked for valentines day. Going with a single male coworker...probably not.
Cowfish sounds interesting and I do like sushi. Have to see how the coworker feels about it.

I didn't even realize tomorrow was Valentines day... My bad! 5 Church isn't really upscale, nice atmosphere to have a few drinks and solid food. Being Valentines day, it will probably be booked.
Not a clue how things are during the week, but Old Meck is generally extremely crowded Fri-Sun, and has typical bar food...There's a good number of breweries in the Charlotte area, but none have "good" food. Heist brewery in Noda, probably would be the best option for a halfway decent dinner. Considering it will be Valentines day, a brewery will probably be the only option.
